‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Release Date Has Accidentally Been Revealed by Netflix

As a passionate cinephile with over two decades of experience under my belt, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming release of “Squid Game” Season 3! Having binge-watched both seasons back to back in the wee hours of the morning, I can confidently say that this South Korean survival drama has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. The suspense, the action, and the emotional depth – it’s a masterpiece that keeps me on the edge of my seat.

The recent “accidental” reveal of the Season 3 release date on Netflix Korea YouTube channel only adds fuel to the fire, as I eagerly await June 27th. The teaser hints at the return of fan-favorite character Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the introduction of a new, equally creepy character named Chul-su.

However, I must admit that the sudden ending of Season 2 left me with a sense of frustration and confusion. As someone who enjoys a well-crafted storyline, I found the cliffhanger to be a bit disappointing. But after reading Hwang Dong-hyuk’s explanation for this decision, I find myself somewhat understanding his choice. I can only hope that Season 3 will deliver on the promise of Gi-hun’s character arc and bring the story to a satisfying conclusion.

On a lighter note, I can’t help but wonder – with all these games and mysterious organizations, maybe they should consider hosting a “Squid Game”-themed birthday party for me! Just imagine the fun we could have playing “Red Light, Green Light” without fear of getting eliminated!

Warning: SPOILERS for Squid Game Season 2 lie ahead…

It appears that the long-awaited third and concluding season of the popular series, ““, might have accidentally been announced. Alongside the unveiling of the first poster and teaser for “Squid Game” Season 3, featuring Young-hee’s “Red Light, Green Light” doll making a new acquaintance in the ominous Chul-su, the Netflix Korea YouTube channel uploaded a video indicating that “Squid Game” Season 3 will be available on Netflix from June 27.

According to Netflix’s schedule, the release date is indicated as forthcoming. However, the video associated with this date has since been taken down. This suggests that the information might indeed be reliable, although it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Netflix or any other source yet. It’s been speculated for some time that the third and final season will air in summer 2025, which aligns well with current expectations.

3 years after the sensational pop-culture event, Squid Game Season 1, Player 456 (former winner) decides against his intended move to the United States and instead re-enters the enigmatic survival game for another round of life-or-death competition. This time, a fresh cast of participants are assembled in hopes of claiming the massive 45.6 billion won prize. Although not quite as lauded critically as its predecessor, Squid Game Season 2 has proven to be an enormous success for Netflix, surpassing its previous record-holder with an impressive 68 million views in its debut week alone, leaving Wednesday’s 50.1 million views trailing behind.

Why ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Ends in the Frustrating Way It Does…

The unexpected finale of Squid Game Season 2 has sparked a lot of debate, as the intense developments in its second installment ended on an exasperating cliffhanger. It turns out that creator Hwang Dong-hyuk had originally planned for Seasons 2 and 3 to be part of one continuous season, which was later divided into two separate seasons.

Initially, I conceived it as one continuous series; hence, I wrote seasons two and three as a single entity. However, as the narrative progressed, the storyline expanded beyond manageable limits due to Gi-hun’s journey, which encompasses his return to the game, a revolt, and the climax of this story arc where he attempts an uprising, but ultimately, it all ends in failure.

Even though there were more stories to tell, Squid Game’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, believed that the development of the main character Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) was sufficiently concluded at the midpoint of Season 1. He felt that the climax of Season 2 provided the ideal location to pause before returning for a final round, wrapping up the series with the best possible ending.

I felt it was time to pause here and carry on in future episodes. After all, following the traumatic event Gi-hun encounters and his subsequent failure and guilt, we’ll see more development in his character. To ensure this arc is explored thoroughly, I believe it would be best to continue the story in another season.
