Sridevi Birth Anniversary: When Boney Kapoor revealed how she would constantly check on Arjun and Anshula; ‘She goes an extra mile’

As a dedicated follower of the magical world of cinema, I have been deeply moved by the life and career of the legendary Sridevi. Her versatility, grace, and undeniable charm made her a timeless icon who ruled the hearts of millions for more than five decades.

Born on August 13, 1963, Sridevi was a remarkable actress who dominated Bollywood while also leaving indelible marks in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada language films. Starting her career at just four years old with the Tamil film “Kandhan Karunai,” she later transitioned to Hindi cinema with “Solva Sawan” in 1979. Throughout her extensive career, she worked tirelessly within the industry until meeting filmmaker Boney Kapoor. The two married in Shirdi in 1996.

At that point, Kapoor was wed to Mona Shourie and was father to Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. Sridevi, being their stepmother, treated them no differently than her own daughters Janhvi, Khushi, and Boney’s children. As the producer shared in a past Filmfare interview, the actress from Mom would regularly maintain contact with all four kids.

Referring to the actor’s connection with Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, Boney stated to the media, “Her primary concern is our kids. She frequently inquires about Arjun and Anshula from me.” He further mentioned that regardless of late nights or staying up until 3 am, she would rise at 6:30 am. It was part of her routine to ensure the girls had eaten breakfast and even accompanied them to the gate as they departed for school.

Speaking about his wife, he referred to her as a “loyal family supporter.” He further mentioned that whether it was with his parents or their children, she exhibited the same dedication. Looking back on his 50th birthday celebration, Boney Kapoor stated that all of his children were in attendance because of her. He added, “She has always ensured that the family stays united,” emphasizing that Sri would always make extraordinary efforts to keep the family bond strong, no matter the circumstances.

The actress from Sadma is recognized as the ‘initial female megastar’ of the Indian film world, maintaining her leading position for over five decades. She was not only one of the most admired and well-compensated personalities during her era, but she also boasted almost 300 films in her repertoire. From Amitabh Bachchan to Rajinikanth, she collaborated with many prominent figures across the entertainment spectrum. Her allure and grace were captivating enough to win over any admirer. Even her husband, Boney Kapoor, was enamored upon seeing her in a Tamil film during the 70s.

Anxious to spend time together, the actor-producer attempted to visit her home in Chennai, but it didn’t work out since she was filming in Singapore at the time. However, he continued admiring her charm and elegance as he saw her in various Hindi films. With unwavering resolve, he sought to cast her in his 1987 movie titled Mr. India, directed by Shekhar Kapur. Eventually, he approached one of her film sets in Mumbai, and their initial encounter was nothing short of a cherished dream for Kapoor.

During the India Today Woman Summit in 2013, it was disclosed that she was an introvert, preferring to avoid interaction with strangers. At the time, he too was among these unfamiliar faces. A mere handful of words she spoke to him in her broken Hindi and English left a profound impact on him, piquing his interest to learn more about her. After casting her in his film, he would encounter her on set, and gradually, the actress grew accustomed to him, leading him to develop deep feelings for Sri.

Back then, I was married to Mona, but my heart belonged to Sridevi. I couldn’t hide my feelings from her, so I confessed my love to my ex-wife. After that, English Vinglish actress Sridevi and I could no longer stay apart. My affection for her became evident, and as I displayed my loving side, she too fell for me. We tied the knot in 1996, making her an integral part of my life ever since.
