Daily, we encounter a barrage of distracting news items and disputes that may cause us to overlook yesterday’s misfortune and shift our attention to tomorrow’s challenges, a phenomenon often referred to as “disaster amnesia.” This tactic, coined by Steve Bannon as “flooding the zone,” is strategically employed to overpower people, making it crucial for us to focus on issues we can genuinely make a difference in. One such problem is the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that annihilated over 18,000 homes and structures, scorched more than 57,000 acres of land, and claimed at least 29 lives.
To aid those affected, a new charity event called Multicon is rallying artists from various creative fields to raise funds for home rebuilding and assistance. This charitable initiative takes place on Feb. 22 at The Preserve LA, and you can find more information and tickets here. For additional ways to contribute, check out the details provided at the end of the article.
As reported by Variety, some of the notable attendees at this event are Kevin Smith, David Dastmalchian, Seth Green, Rob Liefeld (the creator of Deadpool, Cable, and X Force), Jackie Tohn (known for Nobody Want This and Glow), Daniel Logan (star of Star Wars), Robert Kirkman (creator of Invincible and The Walking Dead), Sean Gunn, Bitsie Tulloch, Michael Cudlitz (from Superman & Lois and The Walking Dead), Khary Payton, Scott M. Gimple (showrunner of The Walking Dead), Shar Jackson, Tara Platt (voice actor in Naruto and League of Legends), Isaac Robinson Smith (acting in X-Men ’97), Monique Coleman (famous for High School Musical) and KayCee Stroh (also from High School Musical).
The press release states:
At this special event, fans, artists, and community participants will unite for a day focused on charitable contributions. The entirety of the event’s earnings will be donated to United Way Greater Los Angeles, assisting in the crucial restoration and reconstruction following the 2025 wildfires […] Each ticket purchased, merchandise bought, and bid placed at the silent auction will contribute to the recovery efforts via United Way Greater Los Angeles.
At MultiCon, you’ll have the opportunity to mingle with artists, influencers, and experts in various fields during engaging talks and Q&A sessions. Multicon & Other Ways to Support the Working People of LA
Many people mistakenly assume that everyone affected by the LA wildfires is a wealthy celebrity or socialite, but this isn’t true at all. Instead, countless working-class individuals have lost their homes and jobs, as well as thousands of businesses being destroyed. This catastrophe isn’t just devastating for the land; it’s also harming the ocean. With the current Trump administration threatening to withhold federal aid, your support is urgently required now more than ever.
At Multicon, not only do you have the opportunity to make a difference, but you’ll also enjoy a fun-filled experience. Here’s what you can expect:
1. Engaging activities to keep you entertained throughout the day
2. Opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for the cause
3. A vibrant atmosphere filled with energy and excitement
