As a lifelong Trekkie who’s been beaming through the galaxy since the original series premiered, I can hardly contain my excitement about the latest addition to the Star Trek universe – Starfleet Academy! With production underway at Pinewood Toronto Studios’ newly-named Star Trek Stage, it feels like I’ve been transported back to my days at the Academy myself.
Grab your PADDs cadets: classes at Starfleet Academy are underway. Production has begun on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, the newest entry in the Star Trek TV universe, at the Pinewood Toronto Studios’ newly-christened Star Trek Stage. The official Star Trek social media and website shared the first images from the set, featuring familiar faces that are new to the franchise, including Oscar winner Holly Hunter and Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti.
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m eagerly waiting for the premiere of the first season of an upcoming Star Trek series. Although there’s no confirmed release date yet, production has already begun! Two sneak peeks have been shared so far. The first one captures our talented cast members standing outside the iconic Star Trek Stage at Pinewood Toronto Studios. The second image seems to be a table read, possibly of the opening episode, with many principal actors present, including a familiar face that has graced Star Trek: Voyager and is set to appear again in this series – none other than Robert Picardo, reprising his role as the Hologram Doctor. As reported by SlashFilm, Picardo will also be seen in Star Trek: Prodigy. I can hardly contain my excitement!
Starfleet Academy is situated in the 32nd century, during the period known as the Discovery era, which is approximately 900 years following the Kirk/Enterprise era. During this time, the Federation aims to restore its dominance, and the story will unveil a new team of cadets who come together with a shared ambition for a peaceful galaxy.
Under the vigilant gaze of their mentors, cadets will uncover the requirements for Starfleet service, all while nurturing friendships, confronting rivalries, experiencing first romances, and facing a menacing adversary that endangers not just the Academy, but also the Federation. When the show was initially revealed in March of 2023, co-creators and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau extended this invitation to fans: join us at the Academy.
