Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan has been included in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, making it one of the 25 films chosen this year for preservation within the database. Once a film is selected, the Library of Congress stores it in its original format at the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center in Culpeper, Virginia. This ensures that future generations will have the opportunity to watch it, even if they don’t have the chance to stream it like I did last year.
I’m pleasantly surprised, yet I thought it would have happened earlier. However, it seems that films such as “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Dirty Dancing,” “The Social Network,” and “No Country For Old Men” were also added this year. Interestingly, a film from 1895 is on the list as well, implying that there are likely many other movies not in the registry that should be included eventually.
Will Another Star Trek Film Be Added Eventually?
The Wrath of Khan could become the first Star Trek film to be included in the National Film Registry, yet I have my doubts it’ll be the only one. However, pinpointing exactly when this might occur is challenging due to the expansive criteria for movie submissions.

In simpler terms, a broad set of criteria allows for a film like an Oscar-winning movie to be included alongside less prestigious ones, such as Spy Kids.
