For the first time in more than three decades, there’s a possibility that William Shatner might rejoin the Star Trek series through an upcoming project. Although nothing has been confirmed yet, his recent comments at a convention have left fans buzzing with anticipation.
After partnering with OTOY and actor Sam Witwer to revive Kirk through a short film, William Shatner spoke about the possibility of giving Captain James T. Kirk an official comeback at FanExpo Vancouver. Here’s what he shared with the audience, along with my speculation on how Shatner could reappear in a Star Trek series:
Shatner expressed his excitement for the short film project and hinted that he would be open to reprising his iconic role if given the right opportunity. He suggested that a potential return could involve Kirk being brought back through technology, such as holodeck simulations or advanced AI. My theory is that Shatner’s character could appear in a new Star Trek series as a holographic mentor to the crew, guiding them through various challenges and offering his wisdom from the past. This approach would allow for the inclusion of Captain Kirk without the need for time travel or other complex storytelling devices, while still honoring the legacy of one of Star Trek’s most beloved characters.
William Shatner Confirmed He’s Hearing A Pitch Soon To Return As Captain Kirk
At FanExpo Vancouver, where William Shatner graced the stage as a guest, he was once again queried about reprising his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek. Audience members may have sighed at the familiarity of the question given how frequently it’s posed each year. However, this time, Shatner offered a fresh response (as reported by SlashFilm).
On numerous occasions, I have been requested to reprise my role as Kirk. If Kirk is set to return, it must signify something significant; it has to be about the series. However, this writer left such an impact on me that I suggested we discuss it after my commitment in Vancouver ends. So, I’m eagerly waiting for a proposal to transform it into the show; it should arrive by Monday or Tuesday.
I’m quite intrigued about the identity of this writer, and what could have captivated William Shatner so much. Previously, I believed it was unattainable for a star to return, but after Star Trek: Lower Decks successfully coaxed Jolene Blalock out of retirement, I’m now open to the idea that anything is feasible. Moreover, with a new series on the horizon, there seems to be an excellent chance for his comeback.
Shatner’s Kirk Could Appear In Starfleet Academy
For a while now, I’ve been contemplating that Robert Picardo’s reappearance at Starfleet Academy as the EMH might open doors for veteran Star Trek actors to make guest appearances. Since he’s a Hologram, he could potentially summon any of his past characters by pretending they’re holograms themselves. Could this be how William Shatner makes a comeback as Captain Kirk?
Here’s my idea, given the 93-year-old actor’s hectic schedule with international convention visits, a brief guest appearance where the cadets are viewing Kirk during an interview or similar scenario could work wonderfully for Starfleet Academy. This would be a fun and exciting way to delight longtime Trek enthusiasts in this upcoming series.
Indeed, William Shatner merely mentioned he would listen to a proposal. It’s possible that this proposal isn’t even an authentic one from Star Trek. This might be another scenario where he could be involved in a deepfake short video, but all we can do is stay tuned for updates.
If you subscribe to Paramount+, you can conveniently catch William Shatner’s past “Star Trek” performances whenever you want. We’ll make sure to stay informed and share any news regarding his potential return, as it would be significant if it happens.
