The long-awaited second season of “Andor” is nearly here! After the first season ended in November 2022, we’ve been eagerly waiting, but the wait will soon be over. The highly anticipated “Star Wars” TV series is slated to debut on our screens in late April 2025 as part of the television schedule. Subscribers to Disney+ will have the chance to reconnect with many beloved characters, including Mon Mothma, portrayed by Genevieve O’Reilly. However, contrary to popular belief, things won’t be getting easier for Mothma in this upcoming season. In fact, according to creator Tony Gilroy, Season 2 will be a “hellacious” ride, making it even harder to root for her character.
As a devoted Star Wars fan, I found myself immersed in the first season of “Andor”. In this series, I was following Mon Mothma’s character, who was then serving as the senator from Chandrila. However, unbeknownst to many, she was also discreetly funneling resources for the Rebel Alliance, with Luthen Rael, portrayed by Stellan Skarsgård, being a key figure in these covert operations. Interestingly, Tony Gilroy, who played a significant role in reshoots of “Rogue One” and is the brain behind “Andor”, hinted to Entertainment Weekly that we’re about to enter a phase in Star Wars history where Mon Mothma will be compelled to abandon her Senate post and assume a more public role within the Rebellion.
In essence, her departure from the Senate is pivotal in our storyline, and it’s clear we’re focusing on this event. Among all characters, none seems to face as many challenges and hardships as she does. The reason being, besides dealing with the same pressures, fears, and uncertainties that everyone else experiences, she has to endure them in full public view.
More Andor Coverage

Upon Seeing the Trailer for Andor Season 2, I Ponder if the Star Wars Series Might Unveil a Crucial Secret Concerning Forest Whitaker’s Character That I’ve Eagerly Anticipated Ever Since Rogue One.
In simple terms, the character played by Ben Mendelsohn in Rogue One is coming back for Season 2 of the Star Wars series Andor. I’m thrilled to discover who he’ll confront in this new chapter!
As a fan who followed the thrilling journey of Star Wars Rebels, you’ll recall that during Season 3, our heroes were entrusted with the mission to safeguard Mon Mothma when the Empire began hunting her down for her public opposition against Emperor Palpatine. The upcoming Andor Season 2 will delve into the events leading up to this critical moment, but it’s just one of many challenges she faces. Not to mention, in Season 1, Mothma was grappling with strained relationships, both with her husband and daughter. O’Reilly’s character has taken steps to ensure her husband takes the fall if the Empire unearths irregularities in her financial records, but dealing with her daughter’s curiosity about Chandrilan courtship traditions is another story altogether.
Returning to Mon Mothma’s conflict with the Empire in the second season of Andor on Disney+, Tony Gilroy had high praise for Genevieve O’Reilly’s acting in this Star Wars series:
In the upcoming second season, it’s clear that Genevieve has no place to evade, and this aspect is intensified to a nearly unendurable degree. As we discovered in the first season, Genevieve showcases an exceptional acting talent, one that we hadn’t fully appreciated before. We’re still discovering just how far she can push herself. The chance to pen her story and explore her character extensively was crucial for me during the second season.
In the upcoming Season 2 of “Andor,” the storyline will progress by a year every three episodes, resulting in Mon Mothma being in a position similar to what we see before the events of “Rogue One” and “A New Hope.” Essentially, her role in the Empire is over, and she’s now a key figure in the Rebellion. We already know that she will survive the Galactic Civil War and eventually become Chancellor of the New Republic, as depicted in “Ahsoka,” but I’m anticipating some tough moments for her in the remaining episodes of “Andor” as she faces more challenges.
The second season of Andor begins streaming on Disney+ from April 22, with new episodes dropping every week until May 13. Meanwhile, in the Star Wars cinematic universe, the film featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
