In simpler terms, Starknet – a scalability tool that uses zero-knowledge tech on Ethereum‘s layer 2 – has unveiled a new piece of software named Starknet SN Stack. This software enables developers to create their own chains by leveraging Starknet’s zero-knowledge technology.
Zero-knowledge tech continues to be widely used for scaling digital currencies, maintaining robust security that is resilient against quantum computing attacks.
Starknet Launches SN Stack
In a recent update on platform X, Starknet unveiled the rollout of their new software package. This bundle is offered in three distinct configurations: StarkWare Sequencer, which mirrors the public Starknet stack, Madera, an open-source setup that can be tailored to individual needs, and Dojo, a setting specifically designed for gaming purposes. As per the announcement, these options are now accessible.
At StarkWare, we’ve noticed teams worldwide expressing interest in utilizing the technology underpinning Starknet, our STARK-based ZK-rollups, to construct their own chains. Now, it’s your turn to build your personalized Starknet! After years of rigorous testing, our SN stack is now open for public use, empowering individuals to effortlessly create custom chains using the most efficient and economical ZK technology currently available on the market.
Leo Sizaret, Business Development Manager at StarkWare, added,
We’re convinced that technologies based on zero-knowledge will shape the future of blockchain. They offer extraordinary security, scalability, resistance to quantum attacks, and efficiency in terms of costs.
Projects constructed with the SN Stack can benefit from Starknet’s underlying technology, which relies on zero-knowledge proofs. A solution for Ethereum’s second layer, Starknet holds a total value locked (TVL) of $233 million and is ranked as the sixth-largest Ethereum Layer-2 network.
The Risk Of Quantum Attacks
The arrival of the SN Stack software package coincides with a period where quantum computing presents a substantial threat to the current encryption methods employed by cryptocurrencies and blockchain platforms. Yet, zero-knowledge technology empowers users to authenticate information without disclosing the specifics of the data. This technology has multiple variations, such as ZK-stark, which is the foundation for Starknet. In November, XinXin Fan, who leads cryptography at IoTeX, was honored with a best-paper award for his work as a co-author on “Facilitating an Efficient Transition Towards Quantum-Resistant Security for Ethereum.
In their study, Fan and his team suggested adding hash-based, zero-knowledge proofs to every Ethereum transaction as a security measure against potential quantum attacks. Fan believes that hash functions provide an affordable method for safeguarding sensitive financial information from such threats. Notably, this research was published prior to Google’s unveiling of Willow, a quantum processor that can significantly reduce errors in calculations.
According to Google, Willow has the ability to quickly solve complex math problems that would require a conventional binary computer over 10 septillion years to complete within just under five minutes. Yet, despite this significant leap in processing power, some experts in physics and computer science argue that the concerns about quantum computing are being exaggerated.
