Status, a decentralized messaging platform, and Linea, a zero-knowledge-focused layer-2 blockchain, are teaming up to create a brand-new rollup solution known as the Status Network.
Back in 2017, Status – a platform built on Ethereum (ETH) – managed to gather $100 million during its initial coin offering. On August 20th, they revealed their latest collaboration. This new venture intends to utilize the layer-2 technology of the zkEVM protocol, which is supported by ConsenSys, named Linea. As part of this partnership, Status will be the pioneer in contributing to Linea’s open-source code.
What is Status Network?
As per Status, their upcoming layer-2 scaling solution, known as Status Network, is designed to provide an infrastructure that seamlessly combines the functionalities of their mobile and desktop messaging applications. This new system will also link up with the Ethereum network and cater to SocialFi and GameFi projects.
Additionally, the system offers a space for testing governance ideas and incorporates the Status voting mechanism as part of its various functions.
Cyprien Grau, a key member of Status, emphasized that the primary ambition is to expand Ethereum in a horizontal manner. Grau explained that through their partnership and launch of the L2 Status Network, they aim to improve compatibility and contribute significantly to Ethereum’s growth as a prominent layer-1 network.
The collaboration will also bolster Linea’s ecosystem, particularly in driving further its decentralization.
