As a long-time NCIS fan and someone who has spent countless hours dissecting every detail of the show, I find myself utterly captivated by the latest spinoff, NCIS: Origins. Having grown up with Gibbs as a constant presence on my screen, it’s a thrill to delve deeper into his past and understand the man behind the legend.
As the narrative of NCIS: Origins unfolds, unveiling Gibbs’ backstory and the enigma known as “her”, viewers are delving deeper into the agent’s past. This exploration will continue when the second half of Season 1 premieres on the 2025 TV lineup. Along the way, fans are discovering intriguing details about his family, his first encounter with Franks, and even his well-known rules and fishing habits. Yet, there’s one aspect that the producer is keeping under wraps… for the time being.
Absolutely, the spin-off series focusing on Gibbs, titled “Origins”, delves into the backstory of Leroy Jethro Gibbs before his appearance in NCIS. This means fans are getting a deeper glimpse into Gibbs’ past that was only hinted at in the main series. So far, “Origins” has been successful in setting up this origin tale, even reintroducing some well-known characters who have had an impact on Gibbs. However, there are still aspects of Gibbs’ life, such as his notable hobby from NCIS, that fans hope to learn more about in the future.
Thankfully, co-showrunner David J. North told TV Insider that much more will be on the way:
It seems like we’ll need to keep an eye on things as there’s more to come. We may have set the stage with our project involving Gibbs in constructing a birdhouse, but the origin of the boat building is still unclear, along with other details like that.
For anyone who’s a fan of NCIS, they know that Gibbs’ boat work was more than just a pastime for him – it seemed like an escape from everything else. While we don’t know when he first took up this hobby or the reasons behind it, the upcoming series Origins could provide some much-needed answers to those questions. Luckily, with the new show already doing well enough to secure a full season, there should be ample opportunity to explore Gibbs’ boat projects in greater depth.
To put it simply, the series NCIS: Origins is still in its infancy, revealing just a glimpse of Gibbs’ story and that of the entire NIS team. A single episode can only reveal so much, and it’s not as if every question will be answered at once.
It’s been intriguing so far to observe how Gibbs behaved in the ’90s, following the loss of his wife and daughter, and the origins of some of his signature traits. I’m eagerly looking forward to finding out more about when and why he takes up his cherished hobby in future scenes.
Fans of “Origins” have to hold their breath until after the New Year to find out more about Gibbs’ backstory and if the boat mystery will be resolved. But don’t worry, as the series will be back on CBS on January 27th. In the meantime, you can catch up with all episodes by subscribing to Paramount+ streaming service.
