Netflix has added a fresh, eagerly awaited title to its gaming library – the all-new, free-to-play Steel Paws! Yes, you need a Netflix subscription for this one. So, what does this side-scrolling combat game bring to the table? Is it any good? Let’s delve deeper and find out.

Steel Paws can be played on iOS and Android devices, accessible through Netflix’s gaming library. In this game, you take on the role of a cybernetic adventurer scaling a mystifying tower. With your mechanical companions by your side, you modify them and employ their unique skills to assist in combat against swarms of hostile robots that obstruct your path towards the tower’s summit.

Known for his creation of the renowned Shenmue series, Yu Suzuki is involved in the development team of Steel Paws. A glimpse at the gameplay shown in the trailer suggests a hint of his impact with its emphasis on hand-to-hand combat, unique abilities, and intricate sub-systems.

Simultaneously, it’s true that Suzuki is renowned as a talented director, yet he also has his imperfections. Similarly, Steel Paws appears to be an impressive game in terms of its gameplay, but there are instances that make me hesitate, such as the unresponsive main character and somewhat rigid animations, for example.

Just as much, I’m eagerly hoping that Steel Paws turns out well since it would be great if Netflix could claim victory with a full-fledged 3D brawler. If such a project can thrive, it might prevent Netflix from becoming primarily known for spinoffs of Too Hot to Handle or other average tie-ins related to popular shows.
