Step into Unfamiliar Worlds in Onassis ONX's 'Group Hug'

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that video games have transcended their humble beginnings and become a captivating blend of art, technology, and storytelling. The upcoming Onassis ONX exhibition, Group Hug, is a testament to this evolution.

Video games have advanced significantly past simple amusement; they’ve become fully-immersive realms where players get engrossed in visuals, audio, and plotlines. Stepping into alternative worlds, interrelating with them, and influencing their narratives has transformed gaming into a potent form of artistry.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Onassis ONX is about to reveal the extraordinary “Group Hug” exhibition! This one-of-a-kind event showcases immersive video game installations by Theo Triantafyllidis, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, and the creative duo Tale of Tales (Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn). In collaboration with Water Street Projects and expertly curated by Julia Kaganskiy, this show brings a multisensory adventure to New York from September 26 to October 20. Can’t wait to immerse myself in this unique experience!

In each of the three unique installations, players are encouraged to enter uncharted realms where teamwork takes center stage. Works such as Triantafyllidis’ “Feral Metaverse,” Brathwaite-Shirley’s “THE LACK: I Knew Your Voice Before You Spoke,” and Tale of Tales’ “The Endless Forest” all emphasize group engagement over individual victories, according to Afroditi Panagiotakou, Culture Director at Onassis Foundation, who described it as a tribute to collaboration and empathy in a press release.

under the title “Group Hug”, Onassis ONX is making its New York premiere, offering a unique blend of gallery and production studio environment. The exhibition showcases some of the brightest minds in contemporary digital art, with collaborations from Serpentine Arts Technologies and Rhizome, all guided by Kaganskiy’s curatorial perspective.
