Last night’s episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew featured some surprising turns, yet one secret unveiled could potentially solve the series’ most intriguing enigma. The voice of the mysterious Supervisor, a powerful figure controlling life on At Attin, was heard for the first time during an announcement to the citizens of At Attin. It is revealed in the credits that this enigmatic character is portrayed by the highly acclaimed actor, comedian, and author, Stephen Fry, making his debut in the series.
In the play Skeleton Crew, a certain government official is often hinted at but has remained unseen and silent until this point. It’s peculiar since the children in the crew have been involved in some questionable activities, such as abandoning their home planet, without the direct involvement of this figure.
In Episode 7, the Supervisor’s voice is heard for the first time during a seemingly ordinary planet-wide broadcast. As Onyx Cinder nears At Attin, the Supervisor alerts its inhabitants about an upcoming arrival of a Republic Emissary carrying goods. The Supervisor instructs the citizens to halt non-essential activities until the shipment is offloaded. If you’re familiar with British entertainment, you might recognize Fry as the voice behind the Supervisor; his career has been quite extensive and influential across various productions over several decades.
In various films, stage productions, and TV series spanning numerous genres – from the dark sci-fi setting of “V for Vendetta” to Tim Burton’s whimsical “Alice in Wonderland” – Fry has demonstrated his versatility. It comes as no surprise that he is now set to become a part of the “Star Wars” universe. As for the ending of “Skeleton Crew,” it remains uncertain whether we will actually see Fry appear. However, some astute viewers have noticed some clues suggesting that Fry’s character might not be as straightforward as it seems, hinting at a possible expanded role in the season finale of “Skeleton Crew.
The True Identity of At Attin’s Supervisor
In the narrative of Skeleton Crew, there’s another enigmatic character: Tak Rennod, a famed pirate captain and previous owner of the Onyx Cinder. Despite rumors of his demise, since his ship was discovered wrecked on At Attin without any sign of the captain, doubts linger about whether he truly perished.
As a movie critic, I found myself puzzled by the disappearance of Rennod in this series. Officially, he’s just vanished, but SM-33, not exactly renowned for his credibility, claims he’s dead. This raises some intriguing questions about the truth behind his statement.
Another surprising twist came in episode seven, where we learned that the Onyx Cinder was originally an At Attin vessel. Now, Rennod, a legendary figure, was said to have discovered the lost planet of At Attin, a feat thought impossible by many adventurers. However, given the origins of the Onyx Cinder, it seems plausible that Rennod himself might have been from At Attin, making his “discovery” less of an achievement and more of a homecoming.
Since no one else in the series has shown the Supervisor’s appearance so far, the idea that he might be pirate captain Tak Rennod becomes stronger. If this turns out to be true, it suggests that the Supervisor may have intriguing hidden agendas for continuing as At Attin’s enigmatic leader. We’ll likely find out more about these motives when the final episode of season one of Skeleton Crew airs on Disney+ next week.
