Stephen King has an uneasy relationship with Hollywood.
The writings of this chilling novelist have sparked numerous movies. Ranging from critically acclaimed masterpieces such as “Misery,” which won an Oscar, to low-quality productions like the never-ending “Children of the Corn” series. That terrifying short tale has given birth to a franchise that just won’t fade away.
One clunker, “Maximum Overdrive,” is all his fault. King directed the 1986 dud.
Currently, King is expressing his thoughts about this year’s Oscars competition. More precisely, the article mentions that he believes the event should not take place. King made these comments on BlueSky, a platform often sought out by liberals who prefer an environment shielded from conservative perspectives.
Opting out of participating in the Oscars this year, as I personally believe they might be better off cancelled under these circumstances. With LA currently on fire, it seems inappropriate to celebrate glamour at a time like this.
The author got plenty of pushback on the opinion. Here’s just one of many responses.
The city greatly benefits from their presence, whether you find it useful or not. They provide numerous job opportunities and significantly contribute to one of our major industries. Complaining about the Oscars goes against the goal of backing our city.
So far, he’s holding firm.
As a movie lover, I get the point you’re making about the Oscars being a grand spectacle that symbolizes life’s triumphs, and yes, the show should carry on under normal circumstances. However, it’s hard for me not to feel like Nero, lost in the luxurious glamour of it all while the city of Los Angeles is literally going up in flames.
