An upcoming Stephen King adaptation titled “The Institute” under the direction of Jack Bender (previously an executive producer on “From”), has announced its release date and unveiled new poster artwork. The adaptation is based on Stephen King’s 2019 novel, “The Institute,” which is being produced for MGM+. This is just one of many upcoming Stephen King adaptations, with another, “Max’s It – Welcome to Derry“, scheduled for a 2025 release, and “The Monkey” having been released in theaters earlier this year.
As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to share that, according to MGM+, the long-awaited premiere of “The Institute” series is scheduled for July 13, 2025, at 9 PM ET. With less than a month left until the big day, it won’t be long before we get a sneak peek through the upcoming trailer. Below, you can catch a glimpse of season 1 plot and production details, the new poster, as well as fresh images featuring talented actors such as Ben Barnes, Joe Freeman, Mary-Louise Parker, and many others. Can’t wait!
Titled “The Institute,” this series is produced by Stephen King and Jack Bender. It revolves around the narrative of Luke Ellis (Freeman), a teen prodigy who is abducted and subsequently wakes up at The Institute, a place brimming with children, much like him, who arrived there in similar fashion and possess extraordinary abilities. In a neighboring town, Tim Jamieson (Barnes), a former police officer haunted by his past, seeks tranquility but finds it elusive as his path crosses with that of Luke’s.
In this production, you’ll see Mary-Louise Parker as Ms. Sigsby, Ben Barnes playing Tim Jamieson, Joe Freeman portraying Luke Ellis, Simone Miller in the role of Kalisha, Fionn Laird as Nick, Hannah Galway as Wendy, Julian Richings as Stackhouse, Robert Joy as Dr. Hendricks, and Martin Roach as Chief Ashworth.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that I played a significant role in the creation of this film alongside some incredible names. Among them are Stephen King, Jack Bender, Benjamin Cavell, Gary Barber, Sam Sheridan, and Ed Redlich. Each of us contributed our unique skills and passion for storytelling to bring this project to life.

What The First Look At The Institute Means
The Institute Looks Like The Perfect From Follow-Up
As horror enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the fourth season of “From,” set to start filming this month with a projected 2026 release, The Institute on MGM+ seems like an enticing sequel. Notably, Jack Bender, a renowned American director and producer, has been an executive producer for all three seasons of “From.” His extensive resume includes producing the hit series “Lost,” the HBO adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Outsider,” and directing episodes for shows ranging from “Game of Thrones” to “The Sopranos.” He will be channeling his seasoned expertise into four episodes of the premiere season for “The Institute.
MGM+ may not lead the streaming pack, but the legendary film studio and support from its new owners, Amazon, are backing it. Shows like “From ” have already proven successful, and “The Institute ” also boasts a Stephen King connection. If you’re a fan of “From ” or King’s novels, this show seems destined to be a must-watch. The visuals even evoke the atmosphere of “Stranger Things“.
Our Take On The Institute
MGM+’s Stephen King Adaptation Could Be A Hit
Stephen King adaptations can range from masterpieces like “The Shawshank Redemption” to more challenging works such as “The Dark Tower”, so my expectations aren’t usually high. However, MGM+ seems to have invested significant resources into this production, aiming to replicate the charm of shows like “From” and “Stranger Things”. With a talented cast and skilled filmmakers on board, the success of “The Institute” largely hinges on its writing. I’m looking forward to checking it out next month.
