As a die-hard fan who’s followed Tom Hiddleston‘s career since his early days at Cambridge University, I must say, this new project, “Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston,” is like a dream come true! With his passion for ancient history and his knack for bringing stories to life, I can only imagine the fascinating tales we’ll uncover in the ruins of Pompeii.
Even though numerous exciting premieres are filling up the 2024 TV lineup, I must confess it’s been a bit disheartening not to be part of the conversation discussing how Loki Season 3’s finale would have revolutionized things before Avengers: Doomsday. Regrettably, there’s yet no news about whether the Tom Hiddleston-led Loki series will return as a future Marvel TV production or not. However, it’s worth noting that the Thor franchise stalwart, Hiddleston, does have another Disney+ project in the pipeline soon. Interestingly, this upcoming project seems quite fitting and incredibly intriguing.
Under the tentative title “Surviving Pompeii with Tom Hiddleston“, this is one of four upcoming unscripted science shows being developed for National Geographic’s streaming platform. The news about this project sparked curiosity when it was disclosed that this fact alone has piqued my interest even more: I can’t wait to watch this series!
Tom Hiddleston, a Classics graduate from Cambridge University and an avid fan of ancient history, embarks on an investigative journey, giving voice to the forgotten inhabitants of Pompeii. With each episode, he unearths real-life tales that have lain dormant for centuries, showcasing the remarkable moments of daily life, allowing us a glimpse into the humanity of people who lived about 2,000 years ago.
Despite the lack of additional details about Loki Season 3 from Executive Producer Brad Winderbaum, it’s important to note that Kevin R. Wright is also involved in the project. Since Wright was part of the team responsible for making Marvel Television a success, there might be a chance that his collaboration with Tom Hiddleston on Surviving Pompeii could provide them with more opportunities to brainstorm ideas for Season 3’s storyline.
If you manage to draw Tom Hiddleston away from the ancient ruins of Pompeii for a moment to engage in such a discussion, it’s not hard to imagine him studying these historical remains with a look of profound curiosity and fascination, given his academic background as depicted by his role in “Crimson Peak.
If “Surviving Pompeii” performs well, there might be opportunities for sequels in a similar style, with Tom Hiddleston potentially taking the lead again. Even if a proposed project following the emotional finale of “Loki” Season 2 doesn’t come to fruition, we may find the ex-Trickster God transitioning into the role of a beloved pseudo-history professor instead. In retrospect, this career shift seems like a very logical choice.
It’s quite intriguing that “Surviving Pompeii” is being released now, three years after the airing of “Loki” Season 1. This observation arises because the second episode of “Loki,” titled “The Variant,” brought Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Mobius (played by Owen Wilson) to Pompeii itself, at an early stage in the show’s narrative. It’s possible that this Pompeii-set episode sparked the lead of “The Night Manager” to take on this new project.
Absolutely, it’s worth noting that Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in movies, has his own reality series, “Limitless with Chris Hemsworth,” which was recently renewed. Although this isn’t necessarily sibling rivalry, it might have inspired Hiddleston to venture into the unscripted television industry as well.
Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any definite announcement about when Surviving Pompeii will be produced or released, so try not to get too carried away just yet. However, in the meantime, you can certainly enjoy Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of Loki across various Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and TV series by subscribing to Disney+.
If you find yourself in the fortunate position of being at the perfect spot and moment, you won’t want to miss Tom Hiddleston’s rendition of “Much Ado About Nothing”. Sharing the stage with another Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran, Hayley Atwell, this performance will take place at the Theater Royal Drury Lane on the West End from February 10th until April 5th.
