Zoey Deutch admits to stealing from her mother’s closet.
After making her debut on Broadway, the 30-year-old actress recently teamed up with Longchamp to host a party inspired by gardens, celebrating their latest Roseau collection, which was unveiled last Wednesday.
The actress who just made her Broadway debut joined forces with Longchamp to hold a garden-themed event on Wednesday for the launch of their new Roseau line. The 30-year-old was the co-host of this celebration.
Without a doubt, I swiped my mom’s timeless tote bag, the Pliage, in its classic black hue,” Deutch confides to The Hollywood Reporter. “What makes this timeless piece so remarkable is its durability, elegance, and impeccable craftsmanship. My mother, actress Lea Thompson, had owned it for 20 years before I took it, and now, after two decades, it remains in pristine condition. Having spent some time in France, I believe this bag truly embodies the essence of French artisanship.
At Paris Fashion Week, the 30-year-old actress who starred in “Not Okay” was unable to attend the autumn-winter runway shows due to her role as Emily Webb in the Kenny Leon-directed revival of Thornton Wilder’s play, “Our Town,” where she shared the stage with Jim Parsons and Katie Holmes. However, she effortlessly returned to the fashion scene at the Longchamp event, which took place at The Foundry in Long Island City. The evening featured a meal centered around vegetables, prepared by Sophia Roe, a chef who has won a James Beard Award and been nominated for an Emmy as a TV host.
Attendees sported head-to-foot Longchamp attire: Deutsch opted for a khaki leather safari jacket, sleeveless top and skirt paired with black leather Roseau ballerina flats. The gathering also featured stars such as Amelie Zilber from Grown-ish, Tayshia Adams of The Bachelorette, dancer and actress Larsen Thompson, Elysée Sanvillé, and models Coco Rocha and Flaviana Matata.
As a devotee of Longchamp’s fashion, I had the privilege to savor a meal that beautifully echoed their Spring/Summer collection. The menu was a culinary tribute to Creative Director Sophie Delafontaine’s garden in southern France. The starters were roasted baby artichokes, followed by cacio e pepe grissini with herb-pressed flatbreads, and the main course was portobello mushroom milanese served with a mix of Italian radicchio and chicory salad. For dessert, there was a spring pavlova topped with charred grapefruit and cara cara oranges.
The fashion collection itself drew inspiration from Longchamp’s garden. Leather and suede Roseau carryalls came in shades of beet red, cedar green, ginger yellow, and root beige, while cotton canvas totes were available in pumpkin orange gingham. The women’s wear showcased patterns reminiscent of countryside vegetable patches, with trousers adorned with artichoke floral prints, gardener smock-inspired embroidered dresses, suede overalls, and knit separates in green herb hues.
Most recently, you may have caught Deutch in Clint Eastwood’s courtroom drama, “Juror #2,” and coming up next is her appearance in “The Threesome,” set to debut at SXSW in Austin next month. Regarding her recent work in France, the actress takes on the role of New Wave film star Jean Seberg in Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague.” This film focuses on the production of Jean-Luc Godard’s 1960 film, “Breathless.
During a pause in her hosting duties over dinner, Deutch, who collaborates with Elizabeth Stewart of THR fashion stylist, engaged in conversation about her initial encounter with Longchamp, the specific bag from their spring collection she’s drawn to, whether she maintains a ‘granny style’, and the upcoming premiere of her latest film at SXSW.
When was the first time you were introduced to Longchamp?
Without a doubt, I purloined my mom’s beloved Pliage tote bag in its classic black hue. What makes this timeless bag exceptional is its durability, elegance, and impeccable construction, making it an heirloom piece even after 20 years of use. I can attest that my mother owned it for two decades, and now I’ve had it for the same length of time, yet it remains in pristine condition. The chic and enduring design, coupled with its practicality, makes it a favorite among many. My experience living in France has further confirmed that these bags truly encapsulate French craftsmanship. Additionally, the ability to clean it is an added bonus.
In the past, during our Power Stylists feature alongside Elizabeth Stewart, you mentioned having a “granny” style. Has that remained consistent over the years?
In that interview, I admitted struggling to describe my personal style because it varies depending on the occasion, location, and mood of the day. Interestingly, I seldom consider weather when dressing up, a decision I now realize might not be the wisest – as evidenced by me wearing a mini skirt in this 30-degree weather. However, what makes fashion exciting is its ability to change daily, offering endless possibilities and freedom from adhering to one specific style.
We wish we were in New York for the dinner! How’s the party going?
This gathering is themed around the Roseau Bag, which has a garden-inspired and summery vibe, despite the winter season here. It resembles a charming wicker basket for storing produce, striking a balance between practicality and style. I’m thrilled that they plan to release some gold hardware versions; I have a soft spot for gold accessories, although it might sound strange – I simply appreciate gold pieces. All in all, it’s a chic bag that seems to pay homage to their ’90s designs.

After finishing Our Town, how did that experience differ from your usual screenwork in a unique way?
I had an utterly transformative, blissful experience that left me breathless. To put it simply, this particular performance was a thrill beyond words – a non-stop, exhilarating journey that filled me with joy and satisfaction. The uninterrupted flow of acting for such an extended period was a unique challenge, something I’m usually accustomed to pauses, notes, lens adjustments, and breaks. But this opportunity to act without any distractions or interruptions was truly rewarding.
I’ve been fortunate enough to perform in 144 shows of this production, each one special, different, and a welcome departure from my usual routine. I must admit, I fell in love with the process and the people I got to work alongside. It’s an experience I will cherish forever.
The audience feedback must have been amazing to experience.
In our production, we had a total of 28 actors on stage, but the audience essentially becomes the 29th performer. They’re a vital and extraordinary component of the performance experience, as you might expect. It’s not just a simple observation, though – the audience’s involvement is dynamic and exciting because it introduces an element of unpredictability. You never know what will happen next, which makes the entire experience enjoyable.

Could you give me some insights about the movie “The Threesome,” set to debut at SXSW in the upcoming month?
This film’s title is quite revealing! If you haven’t delved into its background, you might find yourself astonished by its content. However, creating this movie was an absolute joy for me, as we filmed it in Little Rock, Arkansas around this same time last year. Starring in it are the delightful Ruby Cruz and Jonah Hauer-King. The director is Chad Hartigan, and the production process was simply fantastic. I’m eagerly looking forward to unveiling it within a month or so. I believe the audience will adore it as much as I do. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of it and worked with such an exceptional team. They are truly remarkable!
Any more Broadway roles coming up?
I’d absolutely adore the opportunity to star in another play! Fingers crossed, I might just get the chance. I’m not quite sure yet what role or production it would be, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. The last one was such a blast, I can’t wait to return if given the chance. This year, I have some fascinating projects lined up – films that I’ll be a part of, and there are a couple already set for release, so I’m thrilled about it! I’m also glad January is behind us now, and we can officially say goodbye to last year and welcome the new one with open arms. Here’s hoping it brings only success and happiness!
