Storm Reid Not Returning to ‘Euphoria’ for Season 3

As a devoted fan who has followed Storm Reid‘s journey since her breakthrough role in “A Wrinkle in Time,” I must admit that the news of her departure from Euphoria leaves me feeling a bit like Gia herself – lost and unsure about what’s to come next.

The third season of Euphoria is going forward without one of its regular characters.

Actress Storm Reid, who portrayed Gia Bennett, the younger sibling of Rue, played by Zendaya, has announced she won’t be part of the upcoming series anymore. The hit show “Euphoria” is gearing up for its third season, which will start filming in January, marking three years since its second season debuted on HBO.

As I sat down for an exclusive chat at the Governors Awards hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, I had some bittersweet news to share about my role on Euphoria. Regrettably, you won’t see Gia in the third season, but let me tell you, I owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the talented cast and crew of that remarkable show, as well as HBO. Euphoria is truly a unique experience for everyone involved. Reports confirm that I won’t be part of the upcoming season.

The second installment of the hit TV series “Euphoria,” broadcast on HBO in 2022, attracted approximately 16 million viewers per episode across various platforms, making it one of HBO’s most watched shows that year. This season ended on February 27, 2022. Since then, the Emmy-winning drama, produced by Sam Levinson, has faced several setbacks, such as Levinson working on The Idol for HBO, which strained his relationship with Zendaya, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.

HBO set the production start date for season three in July, and network head Casey Bloys had previously affirmed this timeline despite speculations (arising from Zendaya and other cast members accepting film roles) suggesting a potential delay. On November 12, Bloys reassured reporters saying, “There’s been no change.” The show is progressing smoothly with plans to air eight episodes.
