During a Netflix press event called “Next on Netflix,” the creators of the series, the Duffer Brothers, discussed the much-awaited fifth season, which is due to be released later this year and marks the first new episodes in three years for the popular sci-fi coming-of-age show.)

“Ross Duffer revealed that the entire season was filmed over a year, resulting in over 650 hours of footage. Consequently, this season is their biggest and most challenging production to date. In essence, it’s like eight blockbuster movies combined, which is truly incredible.

Matt Duffer mentioned, “Simultaneously, we feel this is our most heartfelt tale. Filming it was incredibly intense and emotional not just for us but also for our actors. We’ve been creating this series together for nearly a decade. There were countless tears shed. The show holds deep significance for each of us, and everyone poured their emotions into it. We hope and trust that the intensity of our feelings will be evident on screen.

The Duffers hinted at future endeavors within the realm of the Stranger Things universe, some of which are yet to be officially revealed.

Matt shared that there are more tales from the world of “Stranger Things” being developed. At this stage, he’s not ready to reveal specific details, but rest assured, they’re dedicating significant effort to each story. Their goal is to ensure any content bearing the “Stranger Things” name is exceptional, original, and never repetitive – always offering a unique perspective and blazing its own trail. Plus, it should be nothing short of amazing or at least something they genuinely find impressive. They’ve got a lot of ideas they believe are awesome in the works.

A current production is underway for a play titled “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” which serves as a prequel and takes place in the West End.

The Duffers additionally discussed their forthcoming Netflix productions, namely “The Boroughs” and “Something Terrible is About to Occur.” They are overseeing these projects as executives through their production company, Upside Down Pictures.

Ross stated that both series share the essence of ‘Stranger Things’, which revolves around ordinary individuals dealing with extraordinary events. These shows experiment within their genres, but they maintain a relatable sense of reality. The show ‘Something Very Bad is Going to Happen’ focuses on a bride and groom during a hectic, anxiety-filled week before their wedding, exploring the horror and apprehension that often accompany making a lifelong commitment. While we can’t reveal much about the plot yet, the title hints at its accuracy: bad things indeed occur.

Matt remarked that among the two projects, “The Boroughs” seems to have the closest connection with “Stranger Things” as it revolves around a band of outcasts battling an otherworldly menace. However, unlike “Stranger Things”, this series is set in a retirement community, introducing a fresh twist. Instead of bicycles, these misfits navigate through the community using golf carts. The show boasts an impressive cast including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, and several other beloved screen veterans. We’ve had the pleasure of watching the first three episodes, and we’re excited about it. It offers a blend of fun, fear, and emotion, and we can’t wait for you to experience it too!

Although no specific release date for “Stranger Things” season five has been announced yet, given that the previous two seasons premiered during summer, it’s reasonable to anticipate that trend might continue. Furthermore, considering that season four was divided into two parts, it appears likely that Netflix may opt for a similar strategy in order to maximize the show’s overall impact.
