‘Stranger Things,’ Video Games and French Comics to Light Up Lucca

In 2025, Netflix, Cartoon Network, and Crunchyroll will headline the entertainment at Lucca Comics & Games, a popular culture festival taking place in the Tuscan city from October 29th to November 2nd. This event marks its return for this year’s celebration.

Netflix plans to highlight the fifth and last season of “Stranger Things” at an exclusive event in Lucca on Halloween (October 31), before its multi-episode release beginning in late November. Meanwhile, Cartoon Network is set to reveal an interactive pavilion based on Ben Bocquelet’s beloved animated series, “The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball,” which returns for a seventh and final season on Hulu and Cartoon Network International. Lastly, Crunchyroll will be back at Lucca with a designated anime area offering screenings, sneak peeks, and exclusive merchandise.

This year at Lucca’s video game section, we have the honor of hosting Kojima Productions from Japan, who will present Hideo Kojima’s upcoming title, “Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.” Joining him is fellow Japanese game designer Keiichiro Toyama, known for creating “Silent Hill” and “Gravity Rush,” who will discuss his career and his latest project, the action-horror game “Slitterhead,” developed by Bokeh Game Studio and partially inspired by Hong Kong filmmakers Wong Kar-wai and Fruit Chan. Additionally, indie developer Luca Galante of “Vampire Survivors” fame will also be in attendance at Lucca this year.

For this year’s event, French illustrator Rébecca Dautremer has created the official poster ahead of time. Entitled “French Kiss,” the artwork pays homage to the honored country and depicts six fantastical characters on the brink of a transformative kiss. These figures include a witch, a werewolf, and a manga-inspired monster. At Lucca, Dautremer will introduce her latest graphic novel, “Ruby Rose,” and there will be an exhibition showcasing her work at a new location in Palazzo Guinigi within the city.

Lucca will likewise highlight pioneering artists from the French comic industry, featuring the likes of Moebius, Claire Bretécher, Jacques Tardi, and Florence Cestac.
