Streaming Ratings: ‘House of the Dragon’ Climbs to No. 1 Overall

Streaming Ratings: ‘House of the Dragon’ Climbs to No. 1 Overall

Well, well, well! If I were a gamer living in the year 2024, I’d be absolutely flabbergasted by this streaming battlefield we’ve got here! Matt Smith’s “House of the Dragon” taking the top spot? That Targaryen sure knows how to rule the small screen!

The overall streaming viewership during July 8-14 experienced a significant drop compared to the record-breaking week before. However, HBO’s “House of the Dragon” nearly matched its previous viewer count, which was sufficient to place it at the number one position for the first time.

As a passionate viewer, I’ve got some exciting news! My favorite series, “House of the Dragon,” has racked up an impressive 1.27 billion minutes of watch time on Max (excluding cable channel views). Although it fell slightly short of the 1.3 billion it garnered the week prior, it managed to secure the top spot! Interestingly, the two titles that were ahead of it the previous week, “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and “Suits,” both experienced substantial drops. With these declines, “House of the Dragon” gracefully moved up to No. 1.

The viewing time of Suits decreased by 28% from one week to another, landing at approximately 1.07 billion minutes on Netflix and Peacock. This placed it in third position overall, narrowly trailing behind Bluey (with 1.08 billion minutes on Disney+) and slightly ahead of The Boys (which garnered 1.05 billion minutes on Prime Video), marking its fifth consecutive week above the one-billion-minute threshold. Meanwhile, Love Island surpassed the billion-minute mark for the first time, with viewing spread across Hulu, Netflix, and Peacock platforms.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “In week three following the season premiere, ‘The Bear’ on Hulu managed to keep viewers hooked for an impressive 781 million minutes. Meanwhile, ‘Stranger Things’ reclaimed its spot among the top 10 original series with a watch time of 375 million minutes.”

In its second week, viewership for Axel F fell by a substantial 55%, maintaining its lead in the movie rankings with an impressive 917 million minutes watched. In contrast, IF (607 million minutes) debuted on Paramount+ in its first week, taking second place.

As a dedicated gamer, I want to share some insights about the streaming world. Nielsen’s ratings, you see, focus solely on viewing hours on TV screens and overlook minutes spent streaming on computers or mobile devices. Moreover, these ratings only quantify audiences within the U.S., leaving out viewers from other parts of the globe. Now, let me share with you the top titles that ruled our screens from July 8-14, 2024!
