Streaming Ratings: ‘Monsters’ Jumps 40 Percent in Second Week

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of all things streaming, I can confidently say that this week’s Nielsen streaming chart has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The sheer growth of Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” from its debut to now, surpassing even the legendary “Bridgerton,” is truly mind-boggling.

For the second consecutive week, Netflix’s series titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” topped Nielsen’s streaming rankings, experiencing a significant increase in viewership since its initial release.

The Ryan Murphy-produced show ranked number one during the week of September 23-29, accumulating approximately 2.4 billion minutes of viewership – a 40% increase from its debut week (which started on September 19), where it had 1.72 billion minutes watched. This is also the highest total for any streaming series in Nielsen’s rankings since “Bridgerton” amassed 2.47 billion minutes in June.

As a gaming aficionado, I’m always on the lookout for great content to binge, and it seems like Netflix has delivered two blockbusters recently! The rom-com “Nobody Wants This” kicked things off with a whopping 1.04 billion minutes watched in its first week alone, while the intriguing docuseries about World Wrestling Entertainment impresario Vince McMahon, titled “Mr. McMahon“, garnered an impressive 908 million minutes within the same timeframe. Can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us!

In its premiere on Disney+, “Inside Out 2” clocked an impressive 1.82 billion viewing minutes, making it the second most-watched film of the week this year, trailing only “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” from early July with 2.05 billion minutes watched. For the first time ever, “Bob’s Burgers,” with 844 million minutes viewed on Hulu, took the top spot among acquired series. Notably, “Friends” reappeared in the rankings for the first time since January.

Nielsen’s streaming rankings consider viewing exclusively on traditional TV screens and exclude time spent streaming on computers or mobile devices. These ratings track viewership within the U.S., not in other countries. Here is a list of the most popular streaming titles from September 23-29, 2024:
