Streaming Ratings: ‘Outer Banks’ Rejoins Top 10 With Season 4 Launch

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher who has seen his fair share of Netflix dramas, I must admit that the half-season release strategy for Outer Banks left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The anticipation and excitement built up over months, only to be cut short with just half the episodes at once? It’s like ordering a pizza with only half the toppings!

The fourth season debut of Outer Banks made a comeback on the streaming rankings, yet due to just half a season being available, it significantly underperformed compared to its previous premiere.

During the week of October 7-13, the YA drama garnered a total viewing time of 1.19 billion minutes, placing it as the second most-watched streaming title according to Nielsen’s rankings. Interestingly, its season three premiere in February 2023 (which was released all at once) attracted a whopping 3.15 billion minutes of viewership.

It’s quite likely that the mid-season return (with part two premiering on Thursday) for Outer Banks contributed to the lower overall viewing duration. Likewise, Emily in Paris experienced a significant drop when it came back with half a season in August; however, Bridgerton’s third season, which premiered in May, did not suffer the same fate.

In the week of October 7-13, Netflix’s dating show “Love Is Blind” topped the viewing charts with an impressive 1.23 billion minutes watched; no other program managed to exceed the 1 billion mark. The story of the Menendez brothers, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez,” fell slightly short of this figure, recording 953 million minutes viewed, and slipped to third place overall after three weeks at number one. Meanwhile, “Tulsa King,” a series starring Sylvester Stallone on Paramount+, maintained strong performances and reached a new high of 572 million minutes watched during its second season.

In terms of acquired series on streaming platforms, Bob’s Burgers (boasting 864 million minutes watched on Hulu) took the lead, narrowly edging out Bluey (844 million minutes on Disney+). Gilmore Girls maintained its yearly autumn surge on Netflix with 578 million minutes of viewership. In the movie category, the Netflix debut of Bad Boys: Ride or Die (823 million minutes) ranked highest, surpassing the Menendez Brothers documentary (612 million minutes) on Netflix.

Nielsen’s streaming rankings account solely for viewing on television screens and exclude minutes spent watching on computers or mobile devices. These ratings specifically focus on U.S. viewers, disregarding audiences from other countries. Here is the list of top streaming titles for October 7-13, 2024, within the United States:
