Streaming Ratings: ‘The Boys’ Hits No. 1 Overall With Season 4 Finale

As a devoted streaming enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this week’s Nielsen rankings have left me utterly astounded! The Boys, a series that has consistently entertained and captivated audiences, took the crown by recording an unprecedented 1.33 billion minutes of viewing time on Prime Video. It’s truly remarkable to witness such a surge in popularity for a show that never ceases to push boundaries and deliver top-notch storytelling.

In the week following the finale of its fourth season, The Boys reached an all-time high in Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Meanwhile, Netflix’s movie Hillbilly Elegy saw a revival after J.D. Vance, Ohio Senator and source material author for the film, was nominated as the Republican vice presidential candidate.

During the week of July 15th to July 21st, The Boys accumulated a staggering 1.33 billion minutes of watch time on Prime Video, securing the top spot in Nielsen’s rankings for the first time. This marks the highest viewing total for the series ever tracked by Nielsen, edging out the previous record of 1.29 billion minutes set during the week of June 17th to June 23rd.

Two additional shows surpassed the one-billion-minute threshold during the week: “Cobra Kai” racked up 1.09 billion minutes on Netflix in its final season’s first part, while “Love Island” garnered 1.05 billion minutes collectively across Hulu, Netflix, and Peacock during its finale on Peacock (where it became an exclusive show). Last week’s top-ranked series, “House of the Dragon” (with 1.11 billion minutes on Max), and “Bluey” (boasting 1.04 billion minutes on Disney+) also joined this elite group. It’s important to note that “House of the Dragon” is considered an acquired series as it originates from HBO.

In the U.S., Hillbilly Elegency was watched for a total of 556 million minutes during that particular week, ranking it third in the Nielsen charts. The sales of Vance’s book also experienced a surge as he became associated with Donald Trump’s Republican campaign. This strong performance placed it behind Trolls Band Together (which garnered 937 million minutes of viewing in its debut week on Netflix) and Land of Bad featuring Russell Crowe (with 848 million minutes).

Additionally worth mentioning: The television series titled “Star Wars: The Acolyte” reappeared in the rankings during the week of its finale, attracting a total of 335 million minutes of viewership. On the other hand, “The Bear” (with 567 million minutes on Hulu) has remained in the rankings for a fourth consecutive week, just one week short of equaling season two for its longest continuous stay in the top 10 original series.

Nielsen’s streaming evaluations encompass viewing exclusively on television screens and exclude minutes spent watching on computers or mobile devices. These ratings focus solely on American viewers and do not account for those in other countries. Here are the top streaming titles from July 15-21, 2024:
