Stree 2: Abhishek Banerjee aka Jana calls director Amar Kaushik ‘bully from Kanpur’: ‘He can insult you very badly’

As a lifestyle expert who’s had the pleasure of observing and dissecting numerous film sets over the years, I must say that the unique dynamic on Stree 2’s set is truly captivating. The camaraderie, the banter, and the unapologetic approach to self-improvement are elements that often lead to exceptional results.

In August, Abhishek Banerjee enjoyed a successful run at the box office with the releases of his films “Stree 2” and “Vedaa.” He recently had an interesting conversation with PTI where he discussed what sets “Stree” apart from other projects. Abhishek explained that during filming, director Amar Kaushik would sometimes act like a bully, but the actors would joke around with each other to ensure the best results were achieved.

Abhishek stated that Amar bhai, who is from Kanpur, often behaves like a bully. He may try to pass as a refined gentleman, but there’s something about him that gives off a Kanpuriya vibe. Banerjee further explained that Amar bhai has a knack for harshly criticizing your humor and acting abilities. He might say things like, “What are you doing? Where did you learn this from?” So, you always need to be careful around him.

39-year-old Abhishek Banerjee noted that the cast members on set are quite close, often joking and teasing one another. He explained, “We have a unique bond where we can be brutally honest with each other and find humor in poking fun at each other.” Furthermore, he mentioned that if someone’s improvisation falls flat and isn’t funny, the cast can still laugh it off on the set of Stree.

Abhishek mentioned that on other movie sets, such incidents don’t occur because people feel offended, but here, it serves as a motivator for improvement. In his words, “It’s when you are most exposed in front of your co-stars, that the best ideas surface.” He also emphasized that they always remember to respect this freedom and preserve an internal sense of decorum.

In a screen interview, Jana remarked that seasoned actor Pankaj Tripathi excels in his craft with an unforced grace, even making the intangible amusing. “At times, I find myself simply laughing at the antics he performs,” Banerjee shared.

As debates about who deserves credit for the success of Stree 2 continue, Abhishek has stated that everyone involved in this project feels ‘extremely confident.’ He added humorously, “If we ever feel insecure, we express it openly. For instance, I would often say ‘I want to be in the center frame’ during song shoots, just to annoy my co-stars,” Banerjee concluded with a laugh.
