As an ardent follower of Bollywood, I must say that Abhishek Banerjee’s journey is nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! His experiences, from being dismissed from Karan Johar’s Agneepath to his current success in Stree 2, are a testament to the resilience and determination of actors in this industry.
Actor Abhishek Banerjee, recognized for his memorable roles in Stree 2 alongside Shraddha Kapoor and Vedaa with John Abraham, recently disclosed the ordeal of being cut from Karan Johar’s Agneepath. He openly discussed his apprehensions about his career coming to an end, as Johar found his performance unsatisfactory. Banerjee expressed, “Karan sir didn’t take a liking to me. We were casting actors who resembled Anurag Kashyap-type actors, but they weren’t to Johar’s taste.” He further added, “We thought our careers were over, finished! We’ve been ousted from Dharma now!”
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, actor Abhishek Banerjee spoke about being dropped from Karan Johar’s film “Agneepath.” He stated, “We were removed from Agneepath. We were still in the casting process for Agneepath when Jogi (a reference to a certain style) came into play. I was removed because the casting choices made by my team, which had a similar vibe to Anurag Kashyap’s style, did not appeal to Karan Johar.” In simpler terms, Abhishek implied that his team’s casting decisions for “Agneepath,” which seemed to resemble the acting style of director Anurag Kashyap, were not well-received by filmmaker Karan Johar.
Consequently, they kicked him off the project, causing Banerjee to fear that his professional journey had ended. However, he managed to push through this hurdle and maintain his career trajectory. He expressed, “They told me, ‘Leave our film!’ I thought my career was doomed, finished! But fortunately, I survived.”
Abhishek Banerjee, one of Casting Bay’s founders, has recently served as the casting director for a few notable projects. These include “The Sky is Pink,” a film starring Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar, and the web series “Paatal Lok.”
In 2012, a remake of the timeless Amitabh Bachchan film titled Agneepath was unveiled. This movie, helmed by Karan Malhotra, boasted an impressive cast including Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Rishi Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt. The film received favorable feedback from critics and went on to become a box office hit.
Presently, Abhishek Banerjee is garnering praise for his performance in Stree 2. This movie, starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi, has made a significant mark at the box office, earning over Rs 125 crore globally, according to recent data.
The second installment of Stree is receiving accolades for its notable performances by Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan. Despite battling competition from Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa at the box office, the film has exceeded expectations. Interestingly, the original Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik, was launched in 2018 and turned out to be a financial hit.
