Stree 2: Amar Kaushik was ‘worried’ Akshay Kumar’s scene of making Abhishek Banerjee sit on his thigh would get him ‘gaaliyan’ from women; ‘Mujhe laga yaar…’

As a die-hard fan of Bollywood and a connoisseur of comedic brilliance, I find myself thoroughly captivated by the behind-the-scenes tale of Stree 2’s surprising cameo by none other than the charismatic Akshay Kumar. The director Amar Kaushik, in his recent conversation on Men Of Culture YouTube channel, has taken us on a rollercoaster ride through the making of this hilarious scene, leaving me in fits of laughter and admiration for his audacious approach to cinema.

As a lifestyle expert, I must say, the second installment of Stree, featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has been nothing short of a blockbuster, earning immense affection from moviegoers. However, it was Akshay Kumar’s unexpected cameo that truly sent fans into a frenzy! Now, in an interesting turn of events, director Amar Kaushik confessed he had concerns about potential backlash for having Abhishek Banerjee sit on his thigh in the film. This just goes to show the careful balance filmmakers must strike between creativity and sensitivity.

In a recent chat on the Men Of Culture YouTube channel, Amar Kaushik (director of Stree 2) shared that he had made it a point not to deviate from Akshay Kumar in the movie. As the film centered around women’s empowerment, he encouraged Akshay Kumar to use his creative freedom, but within defined boundaries.

Instead of having Abhishek Banerjee sit on a stool as I suggested, he unexpectedly asked to sit on my thigh. It crossed my mind that this might be misunderstood or attract criticism from women.

After reminiscing about his past, the director contemplated taking action. Yet, he requested Akshay to have Banerjee sit on a stool. He then stated, “Isn’t there anything wrong here, sir? I don’t see any problem. I trust his judgment as I observe.

Amar noted that one should never let an actor’s conviction overboard. As a director, one must keep control of what they want and should realize to what extent it will be funny. He recalled team members were laughing on the sets and Akshay also insisted on taking multiple shots. It was then Kaushik thought, “ye mujhe dikh raha hai Priyadarshan vala vo (I can see Priyadarshan’s skills here).”

Beyond his initial remarks, Kaushik went on to share more details about the making of the scene. He confessed that he rushed through filming the scene so much that he neglected to switch the camera to slow-motion mode. The director noted that a slight shake remains in the shot, but if the audience appreciates and responds strongly to this scene, Kaushik feels Akshay will acknowledge him as being on par with Priyadarshan, which would be an incredible achievement.

In the course of their chat, Amar disclosed that he requested Akshay for a brief role in Sky Force’s production, where they are affiliated. Akshay acknowledged his fondness for incorporating individuals he admires into his cinematic world. He reminisced about Akshay praising Priyadarshan as his favorite director, known for his exceptional comedy skills.

It’s unclear to me why I suddenly thought I could do a wonderful comedy role, but I boldly asked if there might be a small character part in one of your films for a comedic performance. That’s why, with a chuckle, he would say, “My son, of course you can!

Additionally, Kaushik shared all about the situation with Akshay, who appreciated it. Even though he doesn’t work on Sundays, Kaushik consented to film together due to their hectic schedules, provided they finish the scene in just 6 hours.
