In an appealing and straightforward manner: The second installment of the horror-comedy movie, titled “Stree 2,” which features Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in primary roles, generated considerable excitement not just domestically but also overseas. As a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, it welcomed back the popular lead pair reprising their memorable roles. Recently, director Amar Kaushik shared his insights about the challenging task of creating a sequel and the common scrutiny that follow-ups often face.
During an open conversation with Komal Nahta on his YouTube channel, Game Changers, Amar discussed the challenge of creating the eagerly awaited follow-up. He disclosed that the film’s creation was expedited because of its advance scheduling, which increased the tension.
As someone who values transparency, I want to express that after an exhaustingly busy spell, I am looking forward to unwinding for the next 3-4 months. The anticipation from fans about a potential third installment is something I’m keenly aware of, and I’m making a conscious effort not to let this excitement become too much pressure. However, apart from that, not much else has altered in my life.
In addition to discussing the movie-making process for Stree 2, the director also shared about the immense stress he experienced due to the high expectations associated with sequels.
He mentioned that the film was made under significant pressure since it was a sequel, and sequels often face criticism. So, my writer Niren Bhatt and I decided, “Let’s brace ourselves for the backlash, now let’s focus on minimizing the criticism as much as we can.
Amar Kaushik emphasized the unreliable aspect of working with Visual Effects (VFX), explaining that since they didn’t handle the technical aspects themselves, it’s tough to estimate how long tasks will take. As deadlines approached and post-production work multiplied, he admitted those final months before the film’s premiere were sleepless. However, now that the movie has been released, he’s enjoying a peaceful sleep at last.
Last summer, exactly a year ago on August 15, the follow-up to the popular 2018 film Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik, was released in cinemas. This horror-comedy starred Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor as the main characters and continued the chilling yet humorous narrative that had made the original a beloved choice among fans.
With the support of Dinesh Vijan and Jio Studios, Stree 2 was an enormous box office hit, earning more than 80 billion rupees.
