Stree 2 director Amar Kaushik won’t call Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘female-centric film’; here’s why

The film’s unique narrative, strong characters, and engaging performances have made it a standout this season.

Movie 2, featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, is now playing in cinemas. This horror-comedy has been a massive hit at the box office. Shraddha’s character is portrayed powerfully as the savior of Vicky and his group. However, director Amar Kaushik has recently clarified that he wouldn’t label it as a ‘female-centric film’; instead, he sees it as much more than that.

In a conversation with the Indian Express, film director Amar Kaushik was inquired if Stree 2 leans towards being a female-focused movie. To this, he replied, “I wouldn’t label it as a female-centric film; instead, it transcends that.” He emphasized that his movie features strong female characters, even going so far as to say that a woman is the one who ultimately rescues the male characters. The director further explained that at a pivotal point in the storyline, when there’s a song playing, a woman signals for the boys to hide, and they do so behind a jewelry store.

In his opinion, Amar refrains from labeling his films as either ‘female-focused’ or ‘male-focused.’ Instead, he strives to create female characters in his movies like Bala, Stree, and Bhediya who are more powerful than their male counterparts.

Talking about the star of the show, Amar Kaushik credited all five main characters. He mentioned that Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi were the ‘soul’ of the movie. Amar also gave a special mention to the technicians for their hard work. 

He mentioned that everyone involved in the movie is like a star because each individual has poured their all into the film. Without any one of them, the movie wouldn’t be as impressive as it is now.

Movie Stree 2 is a follow-up to the 2018 film Stree, picking up the story one year later. In this installment, the antagonist is Sarkata, who menaces the young women of Chanderi. Notable cameos in the movie include Varun Dhawan, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Akshay Kumar.

On August 15, 2024, the movie Stree 2, co-produced by Dinesh Vijan and Jyoti Deshpande, hit theaters. However, it faced competition at the box office from two other films, Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa.
