Stu Macher is Back in ‘Scream 7’ – It’s Officially Happening!

Hooray, Scream enthusiasts! Pop the corks on your champagne bottles, because the moment you’ve been eagerly anticipating has arrived! According to Deadline’s report, Stu Macher, the fiery antagonist from Wes Craven’s original Scream, is making a comeback in the upcoming sequel, Scream 7. That’s right, Matthew Lillard, who played Stu, has officially joined the cast! Given that Stu was believed to have met his end via a TV set crushing his head back in 1996’s Scream, it’s quite unexpected that director Kevin Williamson would choose to resurrect this character. As the writer of Craven’s first two Scream movies (and Scream 4), Williamson must have devised an intriguing plan to reintroduce this beloved character. This is something fans have been hoping for quite some time now.

Lillard himself hinted at the announcement on his Instagram post, where he shared a video that suggests his involvement in the new “Scream” movie. The video features Lillard’s handwriting of the iconic line from the first film, “My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!!”, accompanied by an ominous yet playful tune. This seems to confirm a popular fan theory that his character might appear in the upcoming sequel. Alongside Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Isabel May, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, and Mark Consuelos, Lillard is set to join the cast of “Scream”.

In the span of just a few hours, I received two stunning pieces of news about “Scream 7.” First, another enigmatic villain from the Scream series was announced to join the cast. Then, the surprising return of Scott Foley, who played Roman Bridger in Scream 3, was confirmed. Roman, you may recall, met his demise at Sidney’s hands, but it seems he’ll be back…in some form or another.

As a fan, I can’t help but wonder if this isn’t more than just a coincidence. With two iconic Scream villains set to reappear, could the characters return as nightmarish sequences? Or perhaps the actors themselves will return, not in their original roles, but as themselves within the storyline. Could Kevin Williamson be planning an even more ambitious meta approach than what we’ve seen before? So many questions, yet no answers in sight.

One of the Best Villains in a Franchise Known for Its Villains

Since 1996, the Scream franchise has put out six movies and seen over ten Ghostface mask-wearing antagonists (one can only hope they’ve cleaned it at some point). This series has earned a spot among genre greats for its unforgettable villains who consistently devise intricate reasons to commit murder. Interestingly, Stu Macher, a character known for stealing the scene in this franchise, ranks high among these memorable killers.

Stu Macher stands out as an exceptional Scream villain because, despite being a bumbling character with insufficient reason to target Sidney (given that he merely followed Billy’s instructions), he managed to endear himself to viewers. A symbol of 1990s culture and fashion, Stu captured hearts in a way that made fans hope for his return in future installments.

Despite being erratic and violent, Stu’s charm and witty dialogue were more cutting than the knife he carried. He embodies the perfect example of a beloved villain whose actions took a backseat to his captivating personality. And now, he returns once more.
