In a regrettable turn of events, Suits might have ended prematurely, denying a heartfelt goodbye to all its characters. Nevertheless, the series finale managed to provide satisfying conclusions for certain storylines. The spin-off of Suits, however, struggled initially, taking nearly half the season to find its rhythm. Unfortunately, this left some viewers disengaged from the show. For those who persevered until the end, they were rewarded with an exhilarating climax.
In Episode 13, entitled “Freedom,” we find our beloved couples reuniting once more. The main pair, Rick and Erica, work on mending their relationship as they tackle one client’s issues together. Meanwhile, Ted and Samantha join forces to bring down a powerful producer. The episode offers a glimpse into Ted’s troubled past through flashbacks, while his friends strive to brighten his present. Some of the showstopping twists in this episode hint at what Season 2 of Suits LA might have offered us.
Kevin Gives Ted a Sweet Farewell
In the series finale, there’s a particularly poignant flashback sequence. The last episode showed Ted’s father, Edward, being sentenced to prison, and he asked for one final dinner with Ted and his brother Eddie. As this episode begins, Edward proposes a change in plans, asking Ted if he can take him out for dinner, and promises Eddie a brunch the next morning. Initially hesitant, Ted agrees once Eddie is on board. They plan to catch up on their favorite show, “Friends,” later that night.
In the restaurant, I found myself yearning to figure out how to mend things with my friend Ted. Ted suggested that a good first step for me would be to phone Eddie daily, since he’s in prison. Just then, Ted got a call from Kevin, urging him to steer clear of his apartment as one of Pellegrini’s goons had planted a bomb there. Amidst the chaos, Ted hastily instructed Stuart to rush to the apartment, hoping we could save Eddie. Alas, neither of us managed to get there in time.
Edward didn’t attend Eddie’s funeral, prompting Ted’s anger before Edward landed in jail. Edward explains that he was attempting to shield Ted because Pellegrini’s goons wouldn’t cease their pursuit until someone met a violent end. The most delightful aspect of Suits LA concluding is that viewers won’t have to endure Edward’s weak justifications any longer. Similarly, Kevin skipped the funeral, but Ted discovers that Kevin was engaged in a fight with Vinnie Santoro, the man who planted the bomb. Kevin admits he had knowledge of Pellegrini attempting to kill Ted, but he waited for confirmation before acting. He offers an apology and reveals his dismissal from the FBI due to his confrontation with Santoro.
Currently, Ted and Kevin share an unbreakable bond. Stuart requests Kevin’s assistance to honor their late friend Edward by renaming a park they frequented as kids, “The Eddie Black Memorial Park,” using the money left behind after Edward’s passing. This gesture moves Ted deeply, prompting him to call and express his gratitude. In response, Kevin accepts a job offer in Los Angeles, wishing to work alongside Ted. The unfortunate end of ‘Suits LA’ means fans will miss out on more of Kevin, one of the most captivating characters on television in recent years.
Rick and Erica Repair Their Relationship
In Episode 12, Rick assisted Victoria Justice’s character, Dylan Pryor, in securing a part in a movie directed by Sean Baker. Since Ted’s agency manages Sean Baker, as Rick negotiated for Dylan’s payment, Erica found herself defending Baker. She obtained details about past agreements between Baker and Dylan from Leah Power, who unfortunately only appeared in one scene during the series finale, despite being a character with significant potential that was not fully utilized.
After Rick helped Dylan secure the role, she wanted to rejoice with him, but he declined due to a reason. Rick explains to her that since he is her attorney, it wouldn’t be appropriate for them to start a romantic relationship as his client. Subsequently, Dylan approaches Erica and expresses her desire to work with her instead. However, before Dylan can change legal representation, Erica must ensure that Sean Baker’s earnings from the upcoming movie are safeguarded.
In the process of discussing Dylan’s contract, Rick and Erica fail to find common ground. They then devise a plan to mislead the movie producer into waiving her share of the profits, allowing more money for Dylan. Eventually, Dylan confides in Rick that she chose to work with Erica so that Rick could rekindle his relationship with her. Rick, having admitted his romantic feelings, manages to persuade Dylan to return to working under him.
When Erica learns that Dylan returned to Rick, she storms into his apartment and scolds him. He admits that Dylan kissed him, yet he couldn’t move past Erica. Erica appears taken aback, but it turns out she hasn’t fully moved on from Rick either. In a tender moment, they share a kiss, wrapping up their story on a sweet note.
Ted and Samantha Fight an Abusive Producer
As I delve into the complexities of a recent film production, I find myself on the phone with my colleague, Ted, discussing an issue that’s far from cinematic grace: the troubling behavior of a producer named Avery Jeffers. It seems he has a history of abusing his film crews, a fact brought to light by Samantha. She proposes an intriguing solution – rallying some of our mutual industry connections who have worked with Avery to join a class-action lawsuit.
As we converse, the walls seem to have ears, for Roslyn, a fellow professional who has encountered Avery in the past, listens in and shares her concerns about his power. Yet, Ted remains steadfast in his commitment to justice, offering his assistance to Samantha. The result? We manage to gather no less than 10 brave souls ready to stand up against such abusive practices. It’s a small step towards accountability, but a significant one indeed.
The triumph they celebrated won’t last long since Avery manages to identify ten individuals and uses the threat of withdrawing financial support from their ventures. Samantha then persuades a friend in charge of a studio to allow her to utilize complaints filed against Avery instead. Regrettably, the lawsuit, which Avery claims damaged his reputation, is swiftly dismissed due to him being an external contractor at the time when those complaints were lodged.
Ted needs Elizabeth Smith’s assistance for another idea, which disappoints Amanda. During Lester’s trial, Elizabeth opposed Ted and wasn’t shy about using underhanded tactics. Similarly, Roslyn agreed to testify against Avery, but she requires Marvin, the HR head, to support her since he has detailed notes of Avery’s abuse towards Roslyn. The lawyers along with Roslyn confronted Avery and informed him of their plan to press criminal charges. Elizabeth showed Avery a hypothetical LA Times headline suggesting his arrest for sexual assault, which could encourage more people to speak up. Ted proposed that if Avery resigns from production, they would only charge him with one count of sexual assault, and Avery agreed to this deal.
What Season 2 Could Have Looked Like
Later on, Ted encounters Amanda, and she commends him for his decision. She proposes they grab a drink together, but Ted has an appointment with Stuart instead. When Stuart takes Ted to the park, he suggests merging their law firms again, which Ted discusses with Erica later on. Erica is open to this idea as well, implying that in another season of the show, all the lawyers could have been working together under one roof. Their discussion also hints at unresolved romantic feelings for both Samantha and Amanda, suggesting potential relationship complications in a second season.
