Sullivan’s Crossing: Edna’s Wisdom Finally Unveils Shocking Truth in Season 3!

The fourth episode of the third season of Sullivan’s Crossing has solidified a witty yet straightforward observation I’ve been pondering over the past two seasons. This current season has seen the addition of numerous characters. Among them is Helen, a romance novelist who seems to be blossoming as Sully’s love interest. In this latest episode, we were introduced to Cal’s parents in a heartrending installment. Similarly, Frank’s much younger cousin, Jacob Cranebear, has been introduced, serving both as a potential romantic interest for Lola and as a catalyst for the plot. It appears that several of these newcomers are likely to continue appearing in Sullivan’s Crossing during its fourth season, with Jacob being a notable example.

Jacob, with a passion for environmental conservation, is currently in college studying lichens. While wandering through the woods near Sullivan’s Crossing, he stumbles upon an exceptionally rare species of lichen. Unfortunately, this unique specimen appears to be infected with some form of fungus and seems to be dying, causing Jacob great distress. It was later discovered that this specific endangered type of lichen is extremely vulnerable to environmental shifts – changes such as the construction of a new luxury resort by Glenn, which is being built right beside the forest. This situation seems to be laying the groundwork for the main conflict throughout the third season of Sullivan’s Crossing, now airing on The CW. Ironically, this conflict could have been avoided altogether.

Sully & Frank Ignoring Edna’s Advice Is About To Backfire Spectacularly On Them

They’ve Awakened The Hornet’s Nest With Glenn

Disregarding Edna’s advice, Sully and Frank chose to act impulsively, skipping the wait for Jacob’s lichen test results, and instead decided to check out Glenn’s new construction site at the Nova Scotia Environmental Agency. To make matters worse, they also ignored her more crucial warning about not antagonizing Glenn when the inspector arrived. Edna, in her wisdom, advises them, “Avoid provoking trouble” – but as usual, Sully brushes off her concerns and reassures her that she frets too much, while Frank follows along with Sully’s lead.

Indeed, much like Edna had cautioned, the NESA inspector discovered no evidence linking Glenn’s construction project to the damage of the lichen, and an upset Glenn confronted Sully and Frank, stating they’d overstepped their bounds. Reminiscent of stirring a hornet’s nest, we can only guess what retaliation Glenn will take to settle the score. Given his reaction following the loss of Sullivan’s Crossing at the end of season 2 – buying all surrounding land and turning it into a high-end development – his response is likely to be swift and severe. It seems Sully is once again reminded that he should have heeded Edna’s advice, a lesson that has been recurring in their story.

So Many Problems In Sullivan’s Crossing Could Have Been Avoided By Listening To Edna

She’s Bossy – But She’s Always Right

On more than one occasion during the last two seasons, characters could have spared themselves trouble if they had heeded Edna’s guidance from the outset. At the very least, the situations could have been less severe had they listened to her earlier. Frank serves as a prime example; for instance, when she cautioned him against lighting his peace pipe in Sully’s hospital room, and he faced having it taken away by hospital staff due to disregarding her advice. This season, we’re witnessing Sully’s reluctance to modernize the Crossing, despite Edna being correct that both the Crossing and Sully need to adapt with the times.

Indeed, Frank’s storyline encompasses his long-standing rift with his family spanning decades, accompanied by deep-seated resentment. After two entire seasons, it was Edna’s persistent pleas that eventually prompted him to let go of past grievances. However reluctant, he didn’t reconcile until she had reached her breaking point. Surprisingly, Edna proved correct, and Frank is now overjoyed at the prospect of forging a bond with his cousin Jacob, whom he once kept at arm’s length. Regrettably, it seems that Jacob may become the next Cranebear to experience the consequences of disregarding Edna’s advice as he becomes an integral part of their lives.

Edna’s Bossiness Comes From A Place Of Love & Wisdom

There’s A Reason Everyone Goes To Her For Advice

In Sullivan’s Crossing, the new partner could appear domineering and dictatorial, but this dominance stems from a deep well of affection. Interestingly, Edna seldom misses the mark – she is almost always correct. The characters in this series aren’t particularly expressive or introspective, a trait particularly evident in Sully, Frank, and perhaps even Edna herself. Despite occasionally stepping over the boundary into being too pushy, her assertiveness is rooted in wisdom earned through experience.

In a unique way, Edna’s insights into practicality and human behavior surpass any other character on the show. This is why she’s often sought out for advice, especially in matters concerning love or life. Regrettably, Sully and Frank consistently fail to heed the lessons life presents them, and it seems that season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing could see them facing the most severe consequences yet due to their disregard for Edna’s wisdom.
