As a seasoned film enthusiast who’s had the pleasure of witnessing the evolution of superhero movies over the years, I must say that the casting for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ has certainly piqued my interest. The decision to bring Eve Ridley into the DCU is an intriguing one, given her relative obscurity in the acting world, with her most notable role being on 3 Body Problem.
In the upcoming DC Universe movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“, actress Eve Ridley has been given a significant role. Following “Superman” as the initial film in James Gunn’s new DCU, this next production will focus on another Kryptonian character, Supergirl. The film is adapted from the critically acclaimed comic book series bearing the same name, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely.
According to Deadline, Eve Ridley has been chosen for the role of Ruthye Mary Knolle in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”. In the comics, Ruthye is a young extraterrestrial girl seeking Supergirl’s help to track down the man who murdered her father, Krem from Yellow Hill. Ruthye Mary Knolle is a valiant warrior accompanying Supergirl on a cosmic journey to avenge her father and witness the galaxy’s beauty and terrors together. Ridley, an up-and-coming child actor, has previously appeared in two episodes of the popular Netflix sci-fi series “3 Body Problem”.
Ridley has recently signed on to star in the upcoming series titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“. This production also features Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem. Craig Gillespie, known for directing films like the remake of “Fright Night“, “Cruella”, and “I, Tonya“, will be at the helm for this project, with a script penned by Ana Nogueira. Filming is slated to commence in January 2025, with a planned release date of June 26, 2026.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Rounds Out Its Core Cast
In a recent turn of events, Ridley’s role in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” was announced, following the revelation that Kelly Macdonald has joined the cast of HBO’s “Lanterns.” This announcement comes a day after Sasha Calle, who previously played Supergirl, spoke openly about her feelings regarding her tenure being abruptly ended due to the disappointing box office performance of “The Flash” and the reorganization of the DCEU into the DCU. With the primary three characters from the comic now cast, it won’t be long before the rest of the cast is finalized for “Supergirl.” At this point, it remains unknown whether “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” will incorporate other cosmic DC heroes and villains into its narrative or if it will strictly adhere to the original comic book storyline.
The upcoming movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” promises a fresh take on the superhero genre, deviating from the usual trend where films based on DC and Marvel comics draw inspiration but not direct adaptations, with the exception of 2009’s Watchmen. Unlike most of these films, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” will directly adapt a specific storyline while still being part of a larger cinematic universe. Director James Gunn has confirmed that these movies can stand independently like the comics, similar to how the “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” comic series is part of the broader DC canon but doesn’t require prior knowledge. It will be intriguing to see if actress Ridley Scott’s Ruthye Mary Knolle will reprise her role beyond this first film.
