James Gunn recently announced an extensive production update regarding Milly Alcock’s upcoming film. It is now official that the movie has completed its filming process.
In a lively exchange with fans, Gunn affirmed a significant achievement, stating, “Are you sure Supergirl has actually finished shooting?” a fan inquired. To this, Gunn replied succinctly, “Indeed, it has.” The main photography for the upcoming DCU film commenced in January at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and London, England. Later in February, it was announced that production was roughly halfway completed.
In April, I learned that Jason Momoa and Krumholtz wrapped up their filming for their roles as Lobo and Supergirl’s father, Zor-El. Filming took place in various locations, including Scotland and Iceland. The movie is set to premiere theatrically on June 26, 2026, as part of DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Interestingly, the first film of this chapter, Superman, will be released in theaters this July, with Gunn joining the cast as well.
Titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” this upcoming film is helmed by director Craig Gillespie and scripted by Ana Nogueira. The film features the eponymous superhero, who happens to be the cousin of Clark Kent, known more commonly as Superman. Unlike her Earth-bound family, Kara Danvers was brought up on a remnant of Krypton, witnessing its destruction and the demise of those around her. This experience has given her a more hardened outlook compared to her cousin who landed on Earth with a nurturing household. The specifics of the plot are still confidential, but it revolves around Kara traversing the cosmos alongside Superman’s canine companion, Krypto. Along her journey, she encounters a young girl seeking justice following her father’s untimely death.
New Supergirl Movie Sees Jason Momoa’s Return to the DC Universe
Following James Gunn and Peter Safran’s formation of the revamped DC Universe (previously known as the DCEU), it was officially announced that many actors who portrayed iconic DC Comics superheroes in the past would not be reprising their roles in the future. One of the exceptions is Jason Momoa, who played Aquaman from 2016-2013, and fans will soon see a new actor playing Lobo in the upcoming series, “Supergirl.
In the upcoming movie, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” it’s said that Jason Momoa’s role is just a cameo, implying fans may need to be patient before they get to see him take center stage in a leading role as the popular DC Comics character, Lobo, the alien mercenary and bounty hunter. As of now, there’s no official word on a Lobo film, but other movies under the Gods and Monsters section of the DC Universe include “Clayface,” “The Authority,” and “Swamp Thing.” Additionally, an unnamed “Teen Titans” film, as well as movies featuring Bane and Deathstroke, have been confirmed.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
