‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ Casts Matthias Schoenaerts in Villain Role

As a seasoned gamer with decades of comic book-inspired video games under my belt, I’m thrilled to hear about Matthias Schoenaerts joining the cast of ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’. His diverse acting portfolio, from period dramas like ‘The Regime’ to action-packed titles such as ‘Red Sparrow’ and ‘The Old Guard’, speaks volumes about his versatility. I can only imagine the menacing portrayal he’ll bring to the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills.

The Belgian actor, Matthias Schoenaerts, has secured a key antagonist part in the upcoming production titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“. This project is being helmed by director Craig Gillespie, as part of the DC Studios portfolio.

Actress Milly Alcock, who plays a prominent role in “House of the Dragon”, has been cast as the lead for the upcoming superhero film, portraying Kara Zor-El, a relative of Superman.

This new feature draws inspiration from the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic series, offering a different perspective on the character compared to what viewers might be familiar with from the CW’s Supergirl show. Instead of sticking to the usual superhero narrative, this story delves into a sweeping science-fiction adventure. The comic follows a young alien girl who seeks Supergirl’s aid in avenging her family’s murder.

In the comic, the antagonist is Krem from the Yellow Hills, the one responsible for the girl’s father’s death. Supergirl becomes embroiled in the struggle when Krem harms everyone’s beloved pet, Krypto.

The upcoming “Supergirl” film will be the second project by DC Studios to begin filming, following James Gunn’s “Superman” as the first feature. It is planned to start shooting in the UK in January and is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 26, 2026.

Recently, Schoenaerts has been seen sharing screen time with Kate Winslet in the high-end mini-series “The Regime” on HBO, as well as in the Western series “Django,” produced by Sky. He also featured in the dramatic film “Rust and Bone” alongside Marion Cotillard, the espionage thriller “Red Sparrow” starring Jennifer Lawrence, and “The Old Guard,” an action-packed thriller with Charlize Theron.

He is repped by CAA.
