As a lifelong comic book fan and an avid gamer with a soft spot for sports, I can’t help but be utterly captivated by the tale of Stephen Nedoroscik, fondly known as “pommel horse guy.” The way he gracefully transforms from Clark Kent-esque spectator to Superman on the pommel horse is nothing short of mesmerizing.
Among the heartwarming tales that unfolded during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Stephen Nedoroscik’s story was undeniably one of the most delightful. Known endearingly as “pommel horse guy”, he captured the hearts of spectators and won not just two bronze medals for his nation, but also a comparison to the beloved DC Comics character, Clark Kent/Superman. This was because, much like Clark Kent, Nedoroscik would take off his glasses before performing on the pommel horse. The gymnast has garnered a large fanbase, with actor David Corenswet from DCU extending sweet congratulations to him. And just like the athlete himself after winning, I can’t help but be overjoyed!
Stephen Nedoroscik was recently interviewed by Gold Meets Golden, and he discussed his Olympic victories. During the chat, the host discussed the numerous fans that the gymnast has amassed in such a short amount of time. The ever humble Nedoroscik seems to be well aware of that, but he still appeared shocked to receive the message from David Corenswet. You can check out what the star of the upcoming movie Superman had to say to Nedoroscik by checking out the video below:
Currently, I’m feeling a strong pang of admiration towards the 25-year-old Olympian. Few individuals can boast about being likened to Clark Kent, and I bet even fewer have received a nod from an actor portraying Superman. The video shared here is particularly noteworthy, and it’s heartening to know that the Massachusetts native was acknowledged in this way. Although I might harbor a hint of envy, my joy for him far outweighs any trace of it. Truly, if there’s someone embodying positivity and resilience during the Olympics, it would be “the pommel horse athlete.”
Throughout the games, I found myself in awe as Stephen Nedoroscik brought home not one, but two medals – a bronze for the men’s artistic team all-around event and another for Pommel horse. It’s fascinating to observe the array of comparisons that emerged during his Olympic journey. Early on, some commentators drew parallels between him and the character Alexander Hamilton from the hit musical, which I must admit, was quite fitting. Later on, he was likened to Steve Smith from American Dad! (a comparison that’s stuck with me ever since). However, what truly resonated with me was when Nedoroscik was compared to one of DC Comics’ most renowned characters.
Discussing Superman, production on James Gunn’s version wrapped in July, and David Corenswet marked the occasion with a sweet treat. There’s definitely excitement (or at least curiosity) about Corenswet portraying Clark Kent. While we might have to wait a while for the first sneak peek, those who’ve worked with him on the upcoming superhero movie are raving about his performance. Not long ago, his co-star and Hawkgirl actress, Isabela Merced, praised Corenswet as “very Superman-like.” Personally, I can’t wait to see what the actor from Twisters brings to the role.
I’m curious to see where Stephen Nedoroscik goes from here, given that he has successfully competed in the Olympics. Notably, he has expressed a desire to participate again when the games are held in Los Angeles in 2028, as reported by The Today Show. However, until then, there are other opportunities he might pursue. For example, some fans speculate that Nedoroscik could appear on Dancing with the Stars, much like many Olympians before him.
One of my personal hopes, though, is that Warner Bros. and DC Studios invite the fan-favorite Pommel horse pro to the premiere of Superman next year. It’d be a great gesture and would further solidify Stephen Nedoroscik’s connection to the film’s eponymous character. Also, it’d be downright wonderful to see a snapshot of Nedoroscik meeting up with David Corenswet. I’m optimistic that it’ll happen but, if not, I’ll definitely relish that video shoutout from Corenswet.
As a gaming enthusiast eagerly waiting for new releases, I’m thrilled to share that “Superman” is hitting theaters on July 11, marking its place in the 2025 movie lineup. Meanwhile, sports fans like myself can keep the excitement alive by subscribing to Peacock and revisiting some of the most memorable moments from the 2024 Summer Olympics.
