Supposed BioShock 4 screenshot teases a very different game

As a long-time fan of the BioShock series, I’ve been eagerly awaiting any news about BioShock 4 for over a decade now. The intrigue and mystery that surrounded the first two games under the sea and the awe-inspiring floating city of Columbia in Infinite left me craving more. So when rumors started circulating about a new installment, I was all in.

Since exploring Rapture once again in BioShock Infinite’s Burial at Sea DLC, there have been rumors about BioShock 4. After a wait of eleven years, we may have received our first glimpse into the future installment. Officially announced by 2K in 2019, fans have remained hopeful and patient for new developments.

As a longtime fan of the BioShock series, I’ve been captivated by the intricate worlds and thought-provoking narratives that have unfolded both underwater in Rapture and in the floating city of Columbia. The first two games offered vastly different experiences, with the underwater dystopia contrasting sharply with the aerial utopia. However, the shocking revelation at the end of BioShock Infinite left us all stunned, confirming that these seemingly polar opposite worlds are in fact connected.

As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to share that MP1st claims they have an authentic screenshot of BioShock 4. This image supposedly previews the next chapter in our beloved BioShock series, promising an advancement that will leave us amazed. The screenshot is said to be from a 2K Visual Effects Artist, but to protect their privacy, MP1st is keeping their identity confidential to avoid any potential backlash for sharing it.

From this shot, while not revealing much at first glance, we can infer several details due to the updated user interface. The most striking feature is a lighthouse-shaped structure, adorned with what appears to be a small sun at its peak. Considering lighthouses have been a recurring element in earlier games, this design aligns well with the overall style.

There’s also a look at the Ricochet Shotgun and two other shotguns, suggesting we’ll be able to juggle a trio of guns. Instead of BioShock’s Plasmid and Infinite’s Vigor meters, there are hourglass symbols that suggest they regenerate over time. The site notices that there could be some kind of time-based abilities.

Based on an early demo presented in a 2021 showcase, we come across the label “Parkside” as a placeholder name. Previously, according to leaker Colin Moriarty, “The game is set in a 1960s Antarctic metropolis named Borealis. The codename ‘Parkside’ was disclosed… I’ve been informed that the development team has significant creative freedom to perfect it.”

Being a longtime fan of the BioShock series, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment upon learning about the recent silence surrounding BioShock 4. Just last month, reports from the Epic Games Store leak mentioned Parkside as the latest project from Cloud Chamber, the studio taking over development duties from the original creators at Irrational Games. However, if this image supposedly dates back to 2021, it’s quite possible that things have changed significantly since then.

Lately, there has been much buzz surrounding the future of BioShock, possibly fueled by the upcoming release of Judas, a supposed spiritual successor by the game’s original director Ken Levine in 2025. Unfortunately, despite the anticipation, we only have an unverified sneak peek as our current reference, which could be outdated.
