SurrealEstate’s Tim Rozon on How Season 3’s Big Bad Raises the Stakes

It’s quite soothing to watch a house being haunted by some supernatural force, but then seeing Luke Roman (Tim Rozon) and Susan Ireland (Sarah Levy) appear to put a stop to the disturbance.

In tonight’s Season 3 premiere of “SurrealEstate,” airing on SYFY, the Roman-Ireland Agency swiftly takes action when a couple urgently needs help with their ghost-infested home. The spirit in question is the house’s late housekeeper, seeking revenge against the previous homeowner who confined her within the chimney. The solution to the case arrives unexpectedly as Lomax (Elena Juatco), an associate from the agency, brings the former owner’s remains. In a peculiar turn of events, the contortionist ghost consumes these remains, and just like that, the haunting vanishes, leaving the property spotless – all thanks to the most proficient (and possibly sole) paranormal real estate agency in town.

To my amazement, what truly took me aback in “Buckaroo” was the unexpected twist: it had been three years since the conclusion of season two, and yet, the Roman-Ireland Agency was still in the process of filling its vacancies after August Ripley (Maurice Dean Wint), Father Phil Orley (Adam Korson), and apprentice lawyer Zooey L’Enfant (Savannah Basley) all departed.

In this episode, we had a chat with Rozon over Zoom, discussing some intriguing moments of “Zooey time” and his thoughts on the emerging antagonist targeting Luke, as reported by SYFY WIRE.

Tim Rozon says found family is a big theme in SurrealEstate Season 3

As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that Roman, Ireland, and Lomax are managing the business transactions, but their absence of internal researchers and Zooey’s Type A personality and frequent need to train new office managers is causing some strain. Fortunately, Zooey has consented to visit the office when necessary, providing valuable screen time for both the audience and the characters in “Buckaroo.

Rozon stated that Zooey is a crucial figure in the storyline. It became apparent, especially at the beginning of the season when they were short-staffed, that Luke and Susan needed each other. Starting off as Roman-Ireland was beneficial because it made Luke understand that he couldn’t manage on his own; he required Susan. He has always relied on Susan, but now we finally acknowledge it, Rozon chuckled.

Rozon added, “This absence of Auggie, Phil, and Zooey under our roof highlights the fact they need assistance too. Our team wasn’t merely a gathering for tasks; it was a ‘found family,’ a bond deeper than mere work associates. It was their tribe, if you will. You might wander away from your tribe, but eventually, you’ll find yourself drawn back to the found family because that’s where you truly belong.

Tim Rozon says Tyler the spirit is gunning for Luke Roman in SurrealEstate Season 3

George R. Olson begins the “Buckaroo” script by straightaway unveiling the season’s danger: a supernatural force trapped within a toy stored in a lake box. During an unlucky fishing trip, Tyler MacNeil (played by R Austin Ball), the local rug entrepreneur, unwittingly frees this entity, which subsequently seeps into his life by possessing him.

By the finale, it’s evident that the entity dwelling within Tyler has a past connection with the Roman family, particularly Luke’s late father, Carl (Art Hindle). Learning this, “Tyler” becomes aggressive towards Luke, even demanding him to put their house up for sale.

Last season, Susan’s life was entirely taken over by an AI at home, which was truly terrifying. However, Rozon suggests that the character Tyler could bring a new and arguably even scarier element to the storyline this season.

He playfully remarked that nothing quite compares to the alertness triggered by an imminent threat, as it pertains to Tyler’s entry into Luke’s realm. However, he also pointed out an interesting parallel between Seasons 1 and 2 – the main antagonist was a house itself! Yes, you heard that right, a house. Despite how frightening ‘Alexa’ might have been, having a real-life person like Tyler constantly around escalated the tension. This is because he is not just targeting Luke but those whom Luke cherishes the most – and sometimes, this can be even more terrifying. It’s these relationships we care about that we feel compelled to safeguard the most.
