Suzanna Makkos Named Head of Comedy for ABC, Hulu Originals

Disney has found a new head of comedy programming for ABC and Hulu.

Suzanna Makkos will be moving from Max and Adult Swim to The Mouse House, where she’ll assume the role as Head of Comedy for both ABC Entertainment and Hulu Original Productions. She’ll work under Simran Sethi, who is the president of scripted programming for these divisions.

Sethi stated, ‘Suzanna’s extensive and diverse background in the industry makes her an exceptional addition to our team.’ She is known for her ability to create successful, culturally significant comedies that resonate both on television and streaming platforms. We are thrilled to have her join us as a key creative collaborator.

In her freshly assumed position, Makkos is tasked with overseeing the creation of comedic content across various platforms at ABC, including ongoing series, as well as live-action comedy, adult animation, and stand-up specials on Hulu.

Makkos expressed his immense excitement about being granted the chance to become a part of Disney Entertainment Television, a place where Craig Erwich, Simran, and their teams consistently excel in television production. He’s eagerly looking forward to working alongside this gifted team of leaders and the diverse array of creative minds behind these iconic brands.

Previously, Makkos served as the head of original comedy and animation at Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max and Adult Swim. Before moving to Disney, she was part of this team. Makkos joined Max prior to its debut and oversaw the creation of series such as the Emmy-winning “Hacks,” “And Just Like That,” “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” and “Creature Commandos” for the streaming platform. In 2021, she also took responsibility for Adult Swim under her leadership.

Before the formation of Warner Bros. Discovery, Makkos had a decade-long stint at Fox where he climbed up the ranks to become an executive vice president in charge of comedy programming and development. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in launching shows such as Bob’s Burgers, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, and The Mindy Project.

Makkos recently joined Disney Entertainment Television, approximately three months after the company restructured significantly. This overhaul led to the closure of ABC Signature studio (with its productions now under 20th Television) and the exit of Erin Wehrenberg, ABC’s senior vice president of comedy. During this transition period, the comedy team had been supervised by Sethi.
