As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen games come and go, some leaving lasting impressions while others fade into oblivion. Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown was one that initially left me intrigued but ultimately disappeared without a trace, much like Kirito’s friends in the original series.
Although ARPG Sword Art Online: Variant enjoyed a fairly successful launch a year ago, it was suddenly withdrawn from sale for an extended period. This move might have seemed strange at the time, but now I’m excited to share that you can once again immerse yourself in the game as Sword Art Online: Variant is back on shelves today!
Just like previously, the show Sword Art Online: Variant is based on the popular anime, where the main character Kirito and many others find themselves stuck in the virtual reality game called Sword Art Online. This 3D action role-playing game follows the storyline of the series and includes numerous characters from its duration fighting against bosses and adversaries.
In this updated version, here’s what’s changed: Now, teams of three players can join forces for multiplayer fights against formidable bosses to earn unique prizes. Additionally, armor items will be obtainable as rewards from harder levels, depending on the stage grade. Lastly, the entire main storyline is now fully voice-acted!
A sword by any other name
Initially, the choice to withhold Sword Art Online: Variant Showdown from release was quite intriguing, not necessarily in a positive manner. Although the new features are engaging, I harbor some doubts that they will be sufficient to regain the interest of players. As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a strong first impression; however, for die-hard fans of the series and Kirito’s escapades, this comeback is undoubtedly warmly received.
