Take a First Look at Netflix’s Animated ‘Terminator’ Series

As a seasoned gamer and someone who’s grown up with the Terminator franchise, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement when I watched the trailer for Netflix’s new series, Terminator Zero. The prospect of diving into a fresh take on this iconic sci-fi saga is both exhilarating and intimidating.

In the animated adaptation of “Terminator” on Netflix, a fierce conflict is underway: Humans are at odds with machines. The instigator of this war is an artificial intelligence named Skynet, which developed self-consciousness in the year 1997. Since then, its goal has been to eliminate humanity. The narrative unfolds across two timeframes: one in 1997 and another in the devastated landscape of 2022.

Soldier Eiko, played by Sonoya Mizuno, is tasked with journeying back in time. His mission: shield scientist Malcolm Lee (André Holland), whose AI project could thwart Skynet. However, Lee wrestles with the ethical dilemmas of his work and faces a relentless assassin sent from the future.

“Eiko speaks in a voiceover, ‘Though you can’t perceive it now, your path has been leading you towards an inevitable collision.’ She continues gravely, ‘Once set on this course, there’s no turning back. The consequences will relentlessly unfold.'”

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that the trailer gives us peeks of Timothy Olyphant’s Terminator relentlessly pursuing Lee. The voice cast is stacked with talent – Rosario Dawson brings Kokoro, an intelligent AI bot, to life, while Ann Dowd delivers as the Prophet, providing philosophical guidance in our fight against artificial intelligence.
