Talystro is a roguelike deckbuilder that combines math with RPG action, coming soon

  • Talystro is an upcoming roguelike deckbuilder and third-place winner of our Big Indie Pitch
  • It combines dice and deck mechanics to let you build up scores and destroy math-based enemies
  • Play as the math mouse, and complete runs in your attempt to depose the evil Necrodicer

If you’ve been following us for some time, you might be familiar with the fact that our main company organizes an event called Pocket Gamer Connects. Among other things, we host a competition called the Big Indie Pitch, where fresh indie games are presented to a group of judges to showcase their innovative releases. Today, we’ll take a peek at one of the contestants who particularly stood out to us, namely Talystro – an engaging math-based roguelike game!

Initially, Talystro might appear similar to other card-building roguelikes that are currently trendy. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear why it’s unique. By blending card play with dice rolls, you assume the role of a math mouse, engaging in combat against numerical monsters as you strive to dethrone the evil Necrodicer.

As a gamer, I’d say it’s all about blending dice rolls with card play. You set a number to take down specific creatures, one that matches their embodied numbers. But watch out, you’ve got a limited stock of dice for each round, so choose wisely!

In a unique blend, Talystro combines the rubber hose animation style with a fantasy theme, reminiscent of the math-centric educational games from childhood. Despite requiring only fundamental mathematics at its core, the gameplay remains engaging and effortless to comprehend just by a glance.

In March, Talystro is scheduled to launch, and I believe the unique combination of being easy to grasp yet challenging to master that comes with its format is exactly what will attract players to it.
