Taylor Sheridan Trusts Collaborator on Set of 1923 Season 2

Known for his high level of involvement in television production, Taylor Sheridan is often credited with creating, producing, writing, and directing several shows currently airing. However, in a recent interview with RadioTimes.com (via Collider), actor Jerome Flynn from the series 1923 mentioned that Sheridan wasn’t present during the filming of Season 2, despite penning the scripts. Instead, Ben Richardson, a frequent collaborator and director, was tasked with overseeing the production.

Richardson has taken charge as director, producer, and cinematographer for numerous shows created by Sheridan, such as Yellowstone, 1923, 1883, and Mayor of Kingstown. It seems he’s become a reliable partner to Sheridan, enabling the producer to concentrate on his ongoing and future ventures.

Flynn explained:

He has such a strong bond with director Ben [Richardson], who oversaw every episode, they effectively function as a collaborative team and he places complete faith in him. Taylor is swamped with various tasks at the moment, so it’s unlikely you would have seen him on set.

Apart from 1923, Sheridan has also created a number of successful productions on his own, including Landman (still waiting for a second season confirmation), Tulsa King starring Sylvester Stallone, Lioness featuring Zoe Saldaña, and the reality horse reining competition series The Last Cowboy. To ensure that these shows continue to thrive, he enlists the help of trusted individuals like Richardson, preventing him from being overextended as an executive producer and writer.

Flynn also took the time to compliment Sheridan’s writing:

Upon watching ‘1883’, I was truly astonished. It seemed clear that the creator had a profound understanding and respect for the historical context of the series, particularly its effects on Native American tribes. There are numerous complex dimensions to it, making it accessible to a broad audience who can now witness some harsh truths about their past in an unprecedented manner.

Taylor Sheridan Continues Developing New Series

Though Sheridan is delegating parts of his series to trusted individuals, he remains quite occupied. Apart from the ongoing productions, he’s also working on numerous new series, especially those expanding the Yellowstone universe. At present, two spinoff sequels are being developed to further the narrative of Yellowstone.

6666 will continue the storyline of the namesake ranch, where Jimmy (Jefferson White) was sent as punishment for breaking his promise to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) regarding bull riding. Contrary to being punished, working at the Four Sixes ranch proved beneficial for Jimmy’s personal growth and led him to meet his fiancée, Emily (Kathryn Kelly). Although specific details about the plot are scarce, a press release from a few years back suggests that the series may delve into the historical background of the ranch.

Another sequel spinoff to “Yellowstone,” yet unnamed, will focus on characters Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser). Similar to “6666,” specifics about the storyline are under wraps. However, it can be expected that the show will delve into the lives of the Wheelers and their adopted son, Carter (Finn Little), at the ranch they acquired as “Yellowstone” concluded. Unlike the Dutton’s expansive Yellowstone ranch, this one is situated in Dillon, Montana, offering ample opportunities for stunning landscape shots reminiscent of “Yellowstone.” Although Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) declined the offer to work at the new ranch, it would be delightful if his character could reappear somehow.
