Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Lioness’ with Oscar Winner Zoe Saldaña Soars on Netflix

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but associate Taylor Sheridan’s name with the cosmos itself, such is his impact on television. However, it’s important to remember that this creative genius has also been instrumental in other captivating Paramount+ series. One of these masterpieces is Special Ops: Lioness, a production that’s rapidly gaining global acclaim.

In 2023, the action-packed spy thriller series “Special Ops: Lioness” debuted with two seasons. Starring Zoe Saldaña as the leading character, who has recently been appointed as an undercover agent, this show found its new streaming platform in Netflix and quickly gained popularity among viewers.

A number of series were transferred from Paramount+ to Netflix, one of which is “Special Ops: Lioness.” In the time period between April 14th and 20th, Season 1 of “Lioness” made a significant impact and managed to secure sixth place on the Top 10 charts. Interestingly, it tied with the series in fifth place, both having approximately 3.4 million views and a total watch time of around 20 million hours.

In this scenario, a lioness takes on the role of Joe McNamara, a high-ranking CIA officer who oversees the “Lioness” program. She leads covert missions aimed at combating terrorism, with her team consisting of other female operatives, all collectively referred to as Lionesses.

Taylor Sheridan is the mastermind behind Special Ops: Lioness, a series that boasts an impressive cast including Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Genesis Rodriguez, and Laysla De Oliveira. The first season garnered mixed reviews from audiences with a score of 56%, but was positively received by critics with a 76%. However, the second season significantly improved upon its critical reception, earning a stellar 90% from critics. Despite this, it retained a slightly lower audience rating of 71%.

To this point, Paramount+ has not yet decided if “Lioness” will extend past its second season, which debuted in October 2024. Nevertheless, the growing enthusiasm for the show could potentially prompt Sheridan to reconsider the possibility.

Zoe Saldaña Took the Role in Lioness to Address Her Dyslexia and Anxiety

The Academy Award-winning actress openly shared her battle with anxiety and revealed she accepted the part in Taylor Sheridan’s film “Lioness” as a means to confront her apprehensions. During an interview, she disclosed that due to her dyslexia, her role necessitated additional hours of preparation, as the dialogue in Sheridan’s world was intricate.

Saldaña expressed that overcoming her dyslexia and anxiety was what initially motivated her to take on the challenge of creating a show similar to one by Taylor Sheridan. Since his work is heavily dialogue-based and quite wordy, she had to learn a specific rhythm for delivering lines in scenes according to his preference.

The actress confided that she had the courage to think I might succeed. However, this necessitated much more time spent preparing, a challenge I overcame with the help of my husband Marco Perego and my family.
