As a long-time fan of Taylor Swift, I’ve seen her evolution from a country crooner to a pop powerhouse, and now to a political influencer. Her latest move, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, is nothing short of inspiring. In a time when politics can be divisive and confusing, it’s refreshing to see a figure as influential as Taylor using her platform for something as important as encouraging people to vote.
Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris triggered an influx of people visiting Vote.gov, the official US government site where citizens can learn about voter registration processes.
Based on statements from a representative of the U.S. Government Services Administration, it was Swift’s endorsement post on Instagram that resulted in approximately 337,826 individuals accessing the voting website, vote.gov.
By 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 11th, a total of 337,826 people had visited vote.gov through the unique link distributed by Ms. Swift, as confirmed by the spokesperson to The Hollywood Reporter.
Vote.gov doesn’t actually sign people up to vote; instead, it guides visitors to their respective state election websites where they can find detailed voting information. It employs data analysis tools to track visits, including those from custom links like the one shared by Swift in her Instagram post.
Taylor Swift voiced her support for Kamala Harris following their debate with the former President Trump, stating via Twitter, “I’m casting my vote for @kamalaharris because she passionately advocates for the rights and issues I feel deserve a fierce advocate.” She continued, expressing appreciation for Harris’s leadership qualities, stating, “I find her to be a steady, talented leader and I believe our nation can achieve far more when guided by reason rather than turmoil. I was truly moved and inspired by her choice of vice president @timwalz, who has been an ardent supporter of LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s autonomy over her own body for many years.
She shared her findings and decisions, emphasizing that everyone should do their own research and make their own choices. For new voters, she reminded them they must be registered to cast their ballot. Additionally, she found it simpler to vote ahead of time, and provided links for registration and early voting details in her post.
Trump, during a conversation on Fox News earlier today, countered her endorsement by stating that he isn’t particularly fond of Taylor Swift. He also hinted that she might experience some consequences in terms of public opinion or sales.
