Taylor Swift, Joe Rogan, Alex Cooper Top Spotify’s 2024 Wrapped Lists

As a music enthusiast who’s been following the industry for decades, I must say that the 2023 charts are truly a testament to the vibrant and diverse talent we have today. From the enchanting melodies of Billie Eilish to the heartfelt ballads of Zach Bryan, it’s clear that artists are pushing boundaries and exploring new dimensions in music.

In the year 2024, Taylor Swift held the title of the world’s most-streamed artist on Spotify, whereas Joe Rogan and Alex Cooper claimed the top spots in Spotify’s podcast rankings.

For the fifth consecutive year, “The Joe Rogan Experience” has remained Spotify’s most popular podcast. This achievement follows Joe Rogan’s interview with former President Donald Trump before the election, which likely contributed to the show’s success. Meanwhile, Cooper, host of “Call Her Daddy,” secured the runner-up position for the second year in a row after interviewing Vice President Kamala Harris on her program.

As a gamer, I can’t help but notice that even though Spotify stepped back from exclusivity for two of their top titles, they remain at the peak of my favorite podcasts list. The global chart also features “Huberman Lab” in third place, followed closely by “This Past Weekend w/Theo Von”. Rounding out the top five is “The Diary of A CEO with Steven Bartlett”, a British video podcast that’s been capturing my attention lately.

The first four titles are widely recognized, but Jordan Newman, Spotify’s head of content partnerships, points out that the success of “The Diary of A CEO” underscores the growing globalization of podcasts, driven largely by the influence of video.

Newman expressed his viewpoint to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that numerous podcasts debuted today seem to have video as their initial format. It appears this aspect is increasingly common in the podcasting sector for those shows that can effectively utilize such a creative style.

For the second consecutive year, Swift has reigned supreme in the music charts, amassing a staggering 26.6 billion global streams. Her reign this time around was particularly impressive following the April release of her album “The Tortured Poets Department“, which became the most-streamed album worldwide on Spotify in 2024. This came during her Eras Tour as well. The top five artists were completed by The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” held the title for the most-streamed song globally with over 1.6 billion streams.

For the first time, Spotify has unveiled a list ranking their top audiobooks, having introduced this feature in 2022 and subsequently broadening it in November 2023 by granting 15 hours of free audiobook listening to premium members in the U.S. and selected other countries. The number one spot was taken by “A Court of Thorns and Roses” penned by Sarah J. Maas, followed by “The Fellowship of the Ring” authored by J.R.R. Tolkien, “I’m Glad My Mom Died” written by Jennette McCurdy, another book in the series by Maas titled “A Court of Mist and Fury”, and “It Ends with Us” penned by Colleen Hoover.

In the United States, Audiobook genres that garnered the most interest were Science Fiction & Fantasy, followed closely by Romance. Additionally, there were significant surges in audiobook listening tied to book-to-screen adaptations. For instance, after its premiere weekend, “Wicked” saw a 1,400% increase in listens, while “It Ends with Us” experienced a 200% surge post premiere and a 570% rise for author Colleen Hoover’s entire catalog on Spotify. Similarly, the popular series “Bridgerton” saw a 143% increase in listens following its premiere.

One way to rephrase the given text in a more natural and easy-reading manner could be:

McGuire noted that typically, the audience for Spotify leans towards a younger demographic. Therefore, it seems we’re perfectly positioned to capitalize on the popularity of genres like romance and fantasy, which are resonating well.

This year, Spotify has not created personalized listening lists for audiobooks, but they are providing authors, podcasters, and other artists with insights about their listeners’ demographics and behaviors on the platform.

Initially, Spotify will provide its users with a customized podcast, created using Google’s NotebookLM AI technology. This podcast offers an audio summary of a user’s personal music listening patterns to people residing in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden.
