Over the last few years, Taylor Swift’s life has been quite hectic, considering her already impressive career. From 2023 to 2024, the singer, who was then 35, undertook The Eras Tour, traveling across different continents. It was during this period that her relationship with Travis Kelce became public knowledge. As Taylor Swift navigates her personal and professional life, a poet is attempting to sue her. However, serving her the lawsuit papers has been difficult for this individual so far.
In 2024, Florida poet Kimberly Marasco took legal action against Taylor Swift and Swift’s own production company, accusing them of copyright violation. Marasco asserted that Swift incorporated material from two of her poetry books into songs and music videos for several albums. The named albums are “The Tortured Poets Department”, “Midnights”, “Folklore”, and “Lover”. Unfortunately, at the time, Marasco was unable to locate and serve Swift (who denied the allegations) before the deadline due to a timing issue. As a result, Swift was removed from the lawsuit, but her production company remained involved.
In February 2025, Kimberly Marasco submitted a second lawsuit alleging copyright infringement against the singer of “Willow”, along with songwriters Jack Antonoff, Aaron Desner, Republic Records, and Universal Music Group, Inc. As it stands currently, the singer is the only defendant who hasn’t been served, and Marasco has expressed challenges in attempting to do so. Now, Marasco is asking Judge Aileen Cannon, who oversaw the initial lawsuit, for guidance on a deadline for service, since she encounters difficulties in this process.
According to Marasco’s account, she appears to be going through a difficult time. She alleges that the “Anti-Hero” singer has been elusive towards her by concealing her residences using Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) and trusts. In her filing, Marasco detailed her present predicament.
The plaintiff worries that linking all defendants’ response deadlines to the service of Taylor Swift, who is challenging to serve, might unjustly prolong the trial and disadvantage the plaintiff, particularly if the service for the other four defendants is disputed in the future.
