TCA Canceled: TV Critics Association Scraps Winter 2025 Press Tour

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating virtual worlds and battling digital adversaries, I must admit that this news of the cancellation of the TCA winter press tour has left me somewhat bewildered. While my experiences may be confined to the pixels and code, I can’t help but draw parallels between the evolving landscape of television and gaming.

The Television Critics Association has canceled next year’s winter press tour.

The action represents another setback for the journalistic community, as it pertains to the Traditional Critics Association (TCA). Historically, TCA is a biannual event that spans several weeks in Los Angeles, attracting numerous TV critics and reporters. They attend various studio-funded discussions showcasing forthcoming shows, as well as executive interviews. Additionally, there’s the annual TCA Awards, where the best television programs of the year are recognized.

TCA President Jacqueline Cutler announced the sad news: The Winter TCA tour has been called off. Due to the ongoing contraction in Hollywood, not enough streamers, networks, and studios could commit to participate fully for a press tour. To give our members enough time to make plans, we made this decision by early November.

She emphasized a point that those who joined us in February and July will recognize – our recent tours were fantastic. I’ve spoken with several executives, and they’ve all expressed extremely positive feedback about the last two press tours. What stands out most is their eagerness to join the Summer 2025 tour. In fact, we’re already making preparations for it.

The pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes posed major challenges for the TCA tours, which have been finding it difficult in recent times to increase studio involvement due to the broader industry transition from traditional broadcasting and cable models towards a focus on round-the-year streaming content.
