As a fan who has binge-watched countless hours of Schur’s brilliant comedies like “The Good Place”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Parks and Recreation”, I can’t contain my excitement for Netflix’s new series, “A Man on the Inside”. The trailer alone left me in stitches and I’m eagerly awaiting its release.
Netflix unveiled a sneak peek at their forthcoming comedy show, titled “A Man on the Inside“, that brings back the dynamic duo, Ted Danson and Mike Schur, who previously collaborated on “The Good Place“.
The series, obtained a direct-to-series commission by Netflix in March 2023, is inspired by the Academy Award-nominated documentary titled “The Mole Agent”. In this production, Dan Fogler portrays Charles, a former professor struggling emotionally after his wife’s passing and growing apart from his daughter, Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis). Netflix summarizes the show thusly:
When Charles comes across an ad from private investigator Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada), he decides to take a chance on embarking on a fresh adventure. His objective: disguise himself as a resident within Pacific View Retirement Home in San Francisco, and recover a stolen family heirloom by unraveling the mystery. With everyone from residents to staff being possible suspects, it’s on Charles to crack the case without being detected by Didi (Stephanie Beatriz), the omniscient director of Pacific View. However, maintaining a low profile becomes challenging as charming Charles easily wins over his fellow residents, which leads him on an exhilarating voyage that makes him appreciate there’s still plenty of life to live – and helps him rekindle his connection with Emily along the way.

At Universal Television, the creator behind shows like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Parks and Recreation”, Dan Schur, has a broad agreement in place. This network is responsible for producing “A Man on the Inside”. In collaboration with Dan Schur, Morgan Sackett (through their production company Fremulon Productions), David Miner from 3 Arts Entertainment, Maite Alberdi, director of “The Mole Agent”, and Marcela Santibañez, producer from Micromundo Producciones, are serving as executive producers. Additionally, Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements of Motto Pictures, who have previously worked on documentaries, are also involved in this project.
