John Ratzenberger, who played Cliff Clavin alongside George Wendt on ‘Cheers’, expressed his sadness upon hearing about Wendt’s passing. In a statement to THR, he said, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend George Wendt. For eleven years on ‘Cheers’, we not only shared a stage but also countless laughs and witnessed one of television’s most cherished friendships unfold. George brought Norm to life with a quiet genius – a talent that made it seem effortless. That was his unique gift.

He was genuinely a skilled artist – modest, amusing, and brimming with kindness. The character you saw on screen was nothing but who he was in real life, possessing exceptional comedic instincts and unwavering devotion to those dear to him, as Ratzenberger stated. I’ll miss our chats and the cherished instances of friendship that held immense value. My sympathies go out to his wife Bernadette, their children, and everyone who adored him.

Additionally, speaking with THR, Kelsey Grammer expressed, “Mourning is something personal. Yet, I had great affection for George. He was cherished by countless people.”

As a fan who’s fortunate to have crossed paths with George Wendt on the set of “Cheers,” I was deeply saddened by his passing. My first encounter with him was nothing short of extraordinary – one of the kindest, most hilarious individuals I’ve ever met. He carried himself with the grace of a star, yet remained incredibly humble during rehearsals (and when the cameras were rolling). Even off camera, he made sure to ensure I had a cold beer in hand at the end of each day. We reminisced about our shared history with the Calgary Stampeders, exchanging stories throughout the week. Here’s to you, George – cheers for the endless laughter and lessons. Rest In Peace.

Bill Simmons expressed on X: “Farewell George Wendt. He was delightful in every role, but his collaboration with Norm Peterson remains timeless. A truly essential element of one of the top 30-minute shows ever. The final scene from Cheers featuring Norm and Sam had a profound impact, and it felt fitting.

Journey Gunderson, head of the National Comedy Center, commented through THR: “George Wendt’s comedy career, from his beginnings with The Second City to his enduring portrayal of Norm on Cheers, produced characters that became part of our families. For 11 seasons, he infused warmth and humor into one of television’s most cherished roles. We are proud to showcase his work at the National Comedy Center, and we celebrate his legacy and the happiness he shared with countless fans.
